You picked the wrong one to argue with there. I remember back in Bosnia when take out was just coming in, someone being bollocked for using the said phrase.
Yours faithfully

Even the Channel 4 news reports 'fire fights' now, rather than battles or skirmishes!

And I don't think 'friendly fire' is actually very friendly ...
Fire fight has a very particular meaning (in the infantry at least) i.e. not the approach to battle, or reaction to effective enemy fire, or the re-org, but the main bit where both sides are shooting at each other. A battle could have several fire fights going on at once.

I can forgive bag grammar and spelling, afterall the English language is in my opinion quite complex and I am not one to throw stones. However I can not and will not tollerate text speak from an adult, forgivable, kind of, from a teenager but not an adult. Grow up 'ffs' . . . Even my mother sent me a text message yesterday with 'LOL' ! Arrrghhh. A part of me died.

And "pre-order". What is wrong with just "order"?

I've seen a retailer offer the opportunity to "pre-pay in advance". Who the fark thinks these things up?

Oh, and I've just remembered another one: having arranged a warranty repair for a minor fault with my oven, I was advised that if I provided my mobile number the engineer would "pre-call to advise of his arrival time". Can you believe that?

One of my elderly customers ends her texts with LOL, she means 'lots of love' and then signs it from her dog. I think that's rather sweet.
