They also like to use the word admit/admitted incorrectly! For example "He's admitted that he's happy with his new contract".
Two I hate are "reaching a crescendo" - umm? reaching a fortissimo might be what they are angling for. For the non-musical, a crescendo is a increase in volume, more or less gradually, and could be from pp to p.
And another mis-analogy is "a quantum leap" in, say, performance. So that would be the smallest possible finite change then
