My first 80+ with a ascent of 3,000ft was absolute torture the last 15 miles my back, hands, and most of all my feet was killing (I think my new cleats were to far forward) ;( . But the nearly ninty a week later was a lot better ( cleats moved back), ascent nearly the same but as there was a slower rider than me out that day I found the going that bit easier , just goes to show how as little as 2mph reduction can make all the difference.

I'm Impressed / bemused that you are on your 3rd bike in a month. I'd ditch the Giant and go back to the triban 520 though.. the Giant is rubbish. Someone sold you a right pup there.

When I did my first century I was pleased to find my cycle computer said 100.2 miles - I hadn't planned it that closely, but I was glad not to be doing laps of the local housing estate to get it over 100!

On a later one I'd changed my planned route because of bad weather, and had to ride up the road for 3 miles and then back again - having cracked the 90 miles I wasn't going to stop before I'd reached 100!

I'm 55 - and I've made a resolution to do at least one imperial century a year, just to prove I can (and it also means I have to do other rides to keep fit enough). Not that they are completed all that fast, mind, and chips/cake/choccy bars play a large part in their completion!

Good luck when you go for it!

I'm keeping the Triban 520 as my winter bike. I loved the triban I had a '3' full aluminium then '520' with carbon fork's and you can't argue they are great value for money... As for Giant being rubbish I'm assuming you've owned one so are talking from experience...but in the short time I have owned mine and covered over 300 miles in ten days. Thr is no doubt in my mind that the full carbon (nearly 5 kg weight deference) and the full ultegra makes a big difference but what do I know I'm just an average Joe I might live to eat my words ;)

Was thinking the same on Sunday but it was getting late I'd been out for 7 hour's . if I'd have been much later (1 hour+)dinner would of been in the dog and my cases would of been on the step :okay:

No I'm sure it's a great bike I was just trying to counteract the high levels of praise and admiration being handed out too.

Once you've got a decent base of fitness in your legs, which you are well on your way to, doing a ton is just a matter of having enough time , enough fuel and turning the pedals. Don't go mad pace wise and you'll be fine.

He might have been joking about the Giant. I was looking for another post offering £30 to take it of your hands

I loved my Giant. I had a Defy before I got my Carbon flibbedy-gibbet (currently looking at me crossly as I've been riding the CX lately)

Keep up the good work.

You will if you want to, but don't worry about it, It's much better to ride X miles and enjoy them what ever the distance.
