Why is it not possible...

Yes why is it not possible, other than by buying second hand, moderately priced frame and forks from Bianchi, Specialised, Trek etc etc.

Quite clearly if you have the income of a footballer you do not have this problem as its easy to buy from these companies what you want if it costs thousands but if you just want to upgrade your existing £1k bike its a different story.

Its not as if I even want CFso you would think these manufacturers would be only too glad to sell of their aluminium old stock as well.

was there a question in there..?

I'm guessing you wanted a new frame and forks for say a Bianchi. (at a reasonable price)
Problems i can see are...
In this time of mass production, just about everything is made either JIT, or to order, with a certain amount of leeway. I can't see anyone holding loads of redundant stock, just enough to cover warranty issues plus the odd few for sale perhaps.
Then there's the companies prestige, they want you to buy their latest products, so offering cheap old equipment isnt really in their interest.
For the same reason, development costs are heavy, again, there's nothing in it for them to offer old stock. New sales of new designs are where the money is.

I'm assuming the above are somewhere near the truth, just my thoughts...although i do sympathise.

... however, there are many companies selling good Alu, Steel, Titanium and CF frames for very reasonable prices ....
Planet X
Condor
Genesis
Spa Cycles
Mercian
Roberts
Enigma
... and many many more that I can't remember at the moment ... why have Trek or Bianchi when there are more interesting choices out there?

gbb thanks for information and it would be hard to disagree with you. Not that I want to.
Fab Foodie thanks also for the info and one of my other bikes is a Roberts Tourer and it was not cheap like some of the other makes you mention and I suppose the jist of my question is that my Bianchi cost me £1k five or six years ago and what I would like to do is update the frame to a newer spec one rather than buy yet another new bike.Oh and just to name drop Mark S was once a family friend so I like the quote.

mickle very astute of cause I do but surely most of us do.

Sorry if I was not clear, those names I suggested all sell just frames as well as complete bikes. IIRC Bianchi also used to sell it's top end frames seperately if that's what you want.
Apologies if I'm confused, because I am.

This attitude annoys the shoot out of me - that bike companies and shops should somehow be grateful that you're prepared to buy their product at a huge discount. If you like these brands enough to want one then do the honourable thing and reach into your pocket. If you're not prepared to pay the going rate for then go buy some piece of shoot more appropriate to your budget. I hear that Tescos sell some nice bikes.

Roberts Tourer made to my spec £2500
Bianchi ML3 £1000
Specialised Hard Rock £350
Ridgeback 603 MBK £150
Focus Cayo £1200

That's the bikes in my garage and not one from Tescos Oh yes I do have one from Halfords though the wifes £250. Now go away you horrible little pip squeak and insult someone that deserves it and not someone that was purely seeking advice.

No doubt your one of those that rides in all the team gear as well.

Still no sure what the arguement is about

That you can't buy a replacement frame set from specialized, trek etc? You can

That they're too expensive? Unfortunately that's life, buy one from someone cheaper
