I'll let a few pictures tell their thousand words each... Yes, this is Copenhagen
I'm actually in one of them!

Admittedly, it's a different beast in the winter!

Given I'm looking to move in the next few years it would be helpful if replies included where they lived! Most are going 'it's lovely' with no indication of where on the planet they are.

And no, I'm not recommending Dewsbury despite countryside and hills being less than a mile away from me.

I have travelled quite a bit of Britain for both work and for pleasure and am always stunned by how beautiful almost everywhere is. Good luck moving..you really are spoilt for choice 😁

What’s up with Dewsbury?

It's very run down with no major shops / restaurants / etc. There's an attempt to restore an old arcade plus outside the Town Hall but little appeal for most. My guess is they're hoping a major urban development nearby (Dewsbury Riverside) will contribute, however there's no road infrastructure development as part of this.

I live on the edge of the town, by a golf course, and do anything I need in Ossett instead.

Yes and no.
Peterborough, often vaunted as one of the least desirable cities to live in England.
Ironically the thing that brought us here, new township, good modern housing, jobs, easy to get a house in the late 1970s...has become the opposite in all bit one category.
It's become a very transient city, people come and go all the time now massive waves of people suddenly appear, we're going through it again, it happens every 10 years or so.
So the social cohesion is gone...fly tipping is a big issue etc etc.

But, it's saving grace, doesn't matter where you are, 4 miles away Is quite nice countryside, NSE or West, there are good cycling opportunities.

Northampton. While the corner I'm in is fairly pleasant I wouldn't recommend the town in general. We're here through work inertia, and when the younger Mrs D joins me in retirement we'll be moving on.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Former south derbyshire mining and pottery town now regenerated and within national forest. 3 counties within 10 minutes riding, 4 counties within 30 mins. Plenty of quiet roads nearby and plenty of easy off road gravel type tracks within easy reach of home.

you forgot to mention we are only 5 miles away from the point in the country that considered the place that that is furthest from any coast in the country

Indeed. It’s suffered a gradual decline like many northern mill towns. As you state there is some good greenery surrounding it, and there is lots of grand Victorian architecture.

But on the occasions I visit the town, it makes my home (Bradford) seem decent. 😁

@Moodyman - although there are some nice places around Bradford I'd agree. It does make Dewsbury look better by comparison.

And I'd agree about some small towns/villages, depending upon how close to services they are. My parents used to live in Horton-in-Ribblesdale in North Yorkshire which was lovely for about six weeks a year; the rest of the time it was isolated, cold and damp.

It's a good compromise between everything. Fairly quiet cul-de-sac, but we can go to city centre, Dartmoor, Beach, in under 25 mins drive. We can walk to local pubs or the coastal path in 10 mins. We have a lovely view out the back of the lake/estuary. It was the only 4 bed house we could afford at the time, and it is a dead-end suburb, but luckily the location has worked out to be great.

S E Lake District.

Lovely scenery, lovely people (friendly), super laidback lifestyle.

Good for cycling if you like hills.

Weather (wet) can be too much at times.

Been here nearly 30 years now.

Currently exploring a move to York (environs) an area which we love.

Partially weather related & partially fueled by Mrs SD fancying one last big adventure - something with which I agree tbh.

October last year I moved from the SE London wastelands nothingness of Orpington to Rochester in Kent. And it's one of the best moves I've ever made. I love the place. A decent town with decent shops, restaurants, cafe's bars and pubs. There's 12 pubs in the high street alone, most very good, the worst being the ubiquitous Wetherspoons. Because there are so many pubs, prices are keen in all the others. There's the Medway river, there's the fabulous castle and the stunning cathedral, in nearby Chatham there's the Historic Naval Dockyard and an abandoned Russian submarine in Strood. Countryside is on the doorstep. We have 2 local train stations that serve all over Kent and London.
There's always something going on in Rochester and environs. The Dicken's festival, The Sweeps festival, gigs at the castle and street markets.
I'm also lucky that I have one of my best friends and cycling chum living just a mile away.

Taunton.

Everything within five minutes on the bike. Lots to do - arts, cultural and volunteering. Beautiful and varied countryside. As cycle-friendly as you will find in England.

I've made more friends here in the last 10 years than I did in the previous 40. Generally people seem to get on well and be accepting of each other.

Spring arrives early, and winter is late.

Great rail links - London in 1hr 40, Bristol in 40 mins, Exeter in 25.

Negatives? The shopping areas are shabby.
