why do cyclists do this (rant ahead)

The ultimate hypocrite is the cyclist who jumps lights and rides on the pavement but then complains that car drivers aren't respecting his road space. How do they expect to be treated as legitimate road users if they flout the rules of the road?
I actually don't see the link. If a cyclist runs a red light when there is no on coming traffic, or all the pedestrians have cleared the crossing and rides on a pavement where there are no pedestrians, how does make that make it ok for a driver to come so close as to endanger him?

You sound like every comments section following an article about a cycle fatality.

It's pretty clear to me. Cyclists moan that car drivers don't follow the Highway Code and treat them with the respect they deserve as road users. Then the same cyclists go and jump a red light. How is it hard to see the hypocrisy in that?

It's like those people who use phones in planes when they shouldn't who then complain when people use bombs on planes when they shouldn't. Complete hypocrisy.

Or maybe one is more dangerous than the other?

Even if it is, so what? I bet every single driver who bitches about cyclists running red lights goes faster than the speed limit occasionally.
I was looking for some data regarding the claim by Globalti that cyclists who jumped red lights are the same cyclists who complain about drivers who misbehave. Can it be true that cyclists who don't jump red lights don't complain about misbehaving motorists? I feel there must be some who do and some who don't.
There are too many assumptions in this thread, I need facts:angry:.

Maybe if cars etc, began ignoring red lights / traffic signs/ driving on pavements and so on, then 'those' cyclists may have a thing or two to say about that - !

As altogether superior beings, we have a divine right to choose which laws to obey.

I'm off for a spot of burglary this evening. How about you lot?

Well if it wasn't for these RLJ'ing cyclists, rules wouldn't be changed to allow left turns at lights, which I believe maybe be along some time in the future. Or idaho stops.

And when those rules are introduced, i reckon all those snobs who used to stop at red will continue since the rules have changed.

The point is the rules changed because of those so-called bobbers.

Clearly my burglaries tonight are actually an act of public service. I'm swelling with pride.:thanks:

I have my own sense of morality and pick and choose which laws to obey anyway. As it happens, this includes most of the laws of the road, but just for a more meaningful reason than "it's the law".
