It’ll be worth checking how the salary sacrifice is set up for you.

They should be taking off the full value of the lease before tax, NI and pensions so this may be the £720 which nets out as a real cost to you if £420?

Worth asking as it may just need some explanation or they may have set it up incorrectly either at the lease end or your payroll?

Yes - but always check your payroll apply the benefit in kind repayment back to hmrc on your payslip.

My first employer didn't, and I got hit with a £900 bill for unpaid tax (this was pre EV days).

Teslas are very good, but that dashboard (that looks like a tablet computer) looks pretty naff, imho.

I've got an EQC and whilst it has its shortcomings, by God it's a nice car.

Id still get the Model Y. The best EV for it's money.

What cxr said. Tesla all the way.

Would love it if BMW still made i3 but they don't. Those are the only two cars/brands I would consider.

I was at a Merc dealer a while back and they said "yeah the Tesla is a good car but it's just a computer on wheels". Yeah right, they wish their software was half as reliable as what Tesla produced 10 years ago.

All the other cars (except an ID3) are built with dual purpose: electric plus engine. And due to that, they have entirely not-great packaging, no space in the boot, only one boot, no space in the cabin, tight cabin, no foot space. Oh boy. Forget it!

I can't get past Musk and his right wing politics. Tesla is not going to be a popular car for the forseeable future.

It's odd that they see that as a put down given that IIRC Musk's original approach was not to build a car and electrify it but to build a computer and add wheels to it. That is quite literally the selling point. Unfortunately however good Tesla is, until they de-Muskify they will be potentially fatally tainted*. They might be able to persist in the US market, but signs are that the European market for Tesla is falling off a cliff.

*Many may pick up a cheap second hand one and put a bumper sticker along the lines of "I got this before he was a Nazi"

The one where the ADAS crap is easiest to turn off. Lane departure is incredibly dangerous on narrow, poorly marked, much-repaired UK roads and traffic sign recognition is hopeless, always picking up incorrect limits from side roads.

Are you driving a VW?

I hope it doesn't go that way and even if it does, it'll just be a short blip.

I won't politicise this thread but there are plenty of car companies from various countries that had an awkward history but everyone has forgotten.

Ok back to the cars then... I reckon Merc EQ* series are nice and are at varying price points. The thing I heard about Hyundai and Kia is their cars are highly affected by cross winds on the motorway but they are very good in town.

A Suzuku Vitara, where turning off TSR is rather fiddly. Apparently BMWs have one button.

I was more thinking that it sounded like VW's attempt at driver aids which isn't the best in the world. Personally I really like them, but the VW software is prone to picking up speed limits from parallel roads, road going overhead, looking at the speed limit sign and then randomly ignoring it etc. Lane keeping isn't too bad, it can give a little tug but not enough that you can't override without swerving.

I always worry that the people who complain most about lane assist are those that want to change lanes on a motorway or dual carriageway without signalling.

Probably wrong.
