Fruit and veg from the market on Saturday, dried goods from whichever supermarket is more convenient (usually Plus cos I can freewheel down the hill to get there), meat from the butcher or, preferably, the eco butcher on the Leusderweg.

Is it me, or does the mind boggle as to what he went home with... eco.... is that Dutch for female ;)

If we're free on Saturdays then we get fruit, veg and fish at Watford market. Otherwise Sainsbury's because it's closest (really close, I can jog round there in a minute). Rice and pulses often come from asian shops (they sell big bags, works out cheaper). Some of our vegetables come from our allotment. There's also a turkish-run place nearby where we often get bread, fruit and vegetables, nuts and all sorts of other stuff. They also do a nice line of bottled beers. Cat food comes from Morrissons.

Sainsbury mostly... can't face dragging the kids round the store so their home delivery service is a godsend.

Co-op is 100yds away.. far too convenient really, as it's too easy to nip down for a load of bread and end up spending £30 on stuff we dont need.

Not too disimilar here:

Local greengrocers just off Whiteladies Road
Local 'wholefoods' place next door
Any combination of greengrocers/bakers/others on the Gloucester Road

Anything else, Sainsbury's.

I do miss the Bull-Ring market in Brum a bit though.

Fruit and vegetables - the local indoor market (open Wednesdays to Saturdays).

Cheese, meat, plants, small electrical items - see above

Biscuits, nuts, tinned pop, spices, marmelade, mango chutney, lemon curd etc etc - the shop on the corner of Church Street and any fruit etc needed on Monday or Tuesday.

Cakes, wholemeal bread, - the local bakers
Milk - delivered by milk man (in glass bottles - the milk, not the man).

More exotic sauces such as Spicey Mango, Curry mixes, yoghurts, local delicatessen.

Heavier or bulkier items, delivered by Ocado, and carried upstairs to my kitchen by the driver.

Alcohol, ice cream, newspapers etc, local Mini market, "Cost cutters".

Stamps, car tax, the Post Office - in Tesco Express.

Vegetables delivered fortnightly. I can also get milk, eggs and some groceries from them.

Waitrose for a big shop. Tesco for odd bits in between.

Waitrose for the supermarket.
Where we lived before, it was at the end of our road. We then moved house and were just around the corner from Sainsburys, so we shopped there. The price crept up and up. My husband said 'If we're spending this much, let's go back to Waitrose'. So we did, in early 2008...and we spend less there than we were in Sainsburys. Probably because there is less junk food to be tempted by, which is good for both cost and health!

Meat comes from the butcher when we can, or Waitrose if for some reason we can't get to the butcher for a few weeks (we usually go to the butcher every 4-6 weeks).

Where I live had Sainsburys x 2, Tesco and Waitrose.

I forgot to mention Avery's for wine - have you been in there?

In the local fruit and veg shops, there is usually a note, by the price, saying where each type of fruit etc has come from. So you can choose whether to have apples for instance from a farm 10 kms away or from France. Do the larger supermarkets, which I admit I have not visited for over a year now, give you the info about where the products come from?

By country certainly. There have certainly been complaints about what supermarkets' definitions of "local" is.

Aldi, the market and small shops, Somerfield, Sainsbury's, M&S, Waitrose in that order.

I just can't be bothered with Tesco any more as their store in on stilts above a vast car park and you have to use slope type escalators to get up and down which takes ages. In awful places like supermarkets I like to get in and out fast, not to have be borne slowly and grimly at a funeral type speed both to and from the shopping floor.
