I seem to be stuck between 12 and 12.5mph and can't get any faster  Even although it was cold this morning, I was breaking a sweat and puffing and blowing so it's not that I'm not trying! It's getting a bit disheartening. I know it's only really been a month but I thought my speed would have risen a wee bit.

Please don't get disheartened, if you're putting the effort in which you definitely are by the sounds of it, the ave speed will come up....you're just tuning your body up at the moment i think.
I've been cycling since july & i've put some blood seat & tears in in that time i can tell you, & i still have days where it feels like i've never sat on a bike before.....just keep doing what your doing & it will slowly get easier & more fun (that's what i'm hoping anyway)

Good chart,I should do one of those although I haven't got all that data.
Just start with what you have and enter it in a spreadsheet, I enter the mileage, time, max sp,avg sp though the last can be worked out by distance and time, so a very basic comp is all that's needed. You can if you wish use a route planning website to plot your course and from that elevation gained/lost if you wish, if you then divided height gained by the distance it will give an indication of whether the ride was more difficult for you or not, but its only a guide as it doesnt factor in distance. like this

again this is monthly but entered on a daily basis.

If you are riding into a headwind you get a tailwind on the way back. Time to look for Strava segments to nail on the return journey.

Yea tried that got 3 2nd best times and a third, but the best was I got a P.B. on the final Km only a 1's quicker but it was after a 30 mile ride in and out of the wind. Still bottom of the pile mind.

Thats the last climb, mind it was about the only climb on an otherwise flat route.

The wind wasn't the problem,it was every firking traffic light going back to red as soon as I got anywhere near them was a pain in the ooer.

I don't mind the winds,it's the getting older and slower that pees me off.

Ha! How ironic,I got raced by a BMX tonight. Not that i really care,im too old and tird for that 5h1t.

The wind is really dreadful today. I've been cycling for 7 weeks and some days have been worse than others but today was hell. I was having to get down onto the drops constantly just to be able to keep moving forward at more than 10mph on the inclines. It made it difficult to hear cars behind me too.

A couple of times when emerging from a lane that was covered by trees at the side into open fields the side winds almost lifted me off the bike and I am 14 stone.

I know this goes against the grain but I really dislike full on wind as it never stays as a tail the gusting seems to come from all directions and is very unpredictable so I never feel right giving it full on in traffic or down hills, one side road (wind tunnel) and you get blatted all over the place not fun at speed.

Haven't been out for two days. Winds are horrendous here too. A few trees down around the area. Don't see the point in risking going out in that unless it is absolutely essential.

Went out this morning in a predicted hour or so break from the rain, planning to do a regular route which could be anything from 16-20 depending on how I felt. Struggled up the hilly section into a really strong south westerly, 6 miles in the roads turn into the direction of the wind and a nice 5 mile run to the next turn.

A few hundred yards up the road with the tailwind the back end of the bike suddenly starting kicking out and sliding and yep, I had a puncture. Seconds later the rain started. As those crazy guys at Tredz had 'forgotten' to send my patch kit I bought several days ago (their words not mine) I then had a 6 mile walk home in the pouring rain with a wounded bike.

Still, I found out my new waterproof jacket is waterproof !!!!
