Marrying my ex!

She paid & contributed NOTHING in all the years we were married. I paid the bills, rent, council tax, food, entertainment, her credit card bills for 11 years, etc etc; then when we divorced I had to give her half of the contents and half of the profit of the sale price of the flat!

Sigh.

There's alot to be said for buying someone you don't like a house and just skipping the marriage/living together thing, cuts out all the heartache and hassle  .

Sorry what, did you buy a car which doesnt fit?
people buying flats in the block bought all kinds of cars - and some of them had no chance. They had to take out a (listed) cast iron column to re-align the ramp, and the client sued for £36,000. Actually the client sued for £2,500,000 but he got £36,000 (of which £21,000 was down to pay m'learned friends). We got £130,000 in back fees and went for a slap-up meal right opposite his office, inviting him along. I've no idea why he didn't turn up.....

I think this needs a much better explanation than I'm understanding (if thats ok?), sounds much more interesting than just buying a car that doesnt fit in a space?

There's an American saying that wives are like hurricanes. When they arrive they are wet and warm and ruffle your hair and when they leave they take the house.

Trusting a bloke called Andrew Gradon who approached me at Milan Malpensa airport with a hard luck story. I lent him €60 and never heard from him again. Subsequently discovered he is a known swindler who has been doing it all over Europe for years.

Lost it, got it again.
6 years ago we booked a tour for a band from LA at about 6/7 good size UK venues. I totally misjudged the popularity of the band massively.
Watching them play to 25 people at the Clapham Grand wasn't nice..

We lost a lot of money. Five figures in £'s on that tour.

Wowsers, which band?

Wowsers, which band?

I was wondering that.

I got a compensation payout about 6-7 yrs ago and wanted to do something with the cash (investment-wise). Saw some land in the area and decided i might go for it and open a 'Bikini Car-wash'. I had Googled and nothing anywhere in Britain at the time. Spoke it through with the GF..... DOH!!! Nope she wasn't having any of it.... So i backed down and just squandered the cash on this and that and me and her... A year later on the news 'The first bikini carwash opens in Leicester' Turnover expected to be £1 million+ a year!!!!! What a fool i was . Yep still with the same GF but she owes me Millions!!! :cursing:

My most expensive mistake was buying a Seat (car shaped object, as opposed to the type of thing you sit on).
Lost £2000 in 3 months on that pile of cack. (bear in mind it cost us £4000)
My thought process was VAG build quality, cant go wrong. Erm, how very, very, VERY wrong of me!!

You live and learn.

Not my mistake - my parents in laws' Very recent event and they're still recovering. Ten years ago they accomplished their dream - bought a big barge in Nantes for the price of a house (I haven't dared asked them how much it cost). It was beautiful that barge - and in a prize position. They spent 10 years and thousands and thousands doing it up, fitting double glazing, re-doing the plumbing, fitting parquet floor...A couple of months ago they took it to dry dock - routine check. Estimated value of the barge - €400 000. But during the check it was discovered the whole hull was rotten. Nothing could be done to save it, only option was to get it taken apart - which they had to pay for. So not only did they lose the home they'd worked all their lives for, but they had to pay thousands in dry dock fees, and then pay thousands more to get it destroyed.
