Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
The dull answer is on some airplane over the pacific or something...the real answer is stepping off the stage at the Marquee club after one of those rare gigs that went 100% perfect!

There is no 'swinging around on ropes' on any of the normal routes, if by that you mean roped rock or ice climbing. Crampons and an axe are essential and even on the easiest way up, the Dome de Gouter, there are places where it would be sensible to rope up i.e. walk as a string of two or three.

MB is like a lot of mountains, relatively straightforward in good conditions if you have the right equipment - but becoming life threatening in minutes if the weather changes or someone gets injured.

Have a read of Fergus Fleming's "Killing Dragons" to see how formidable Mont Blanc was considered in the early days of Alpine exploration. It's a fascinating read.

Mont Blanc is a popular place - I'm another one.

So my highest places (excluding planes) are:
Alps - Mt Blanc - 4,810m (16,000 ft in old money)
Andies - Chacaltaya - 5,421m
Himalaya - Gorem - about 5,000m

3230 metres above Val Thorens. Pitifully low when it comes to height above MSL.

In 1973, in Kabul, I went a bit higher, but my body was disengaged from physical restraints, and I do not remember the details of the ascent. I think I may have reached the Stratosphere. Alas, no record remains.

Ben Nevis - dullest climb that I have ever walked. And very low chance of seeing anything from the top.

Glad I managed to bag it, though. From almost sea level to the highest spot in the UK.

39,000 feet in a 747 on the way to Australia. ;)
What? You have to be standing on the ground?!?!?!?!?!
Oh all right then, something like 2500 feet up a hill near Torridon Youth Hostel in The Land Of Scot when I was about sixteen. Thought I'd be OK as I'd done long walks with the scouts in the Yorkshire Dales & Peak District, not realising the start point for most of them was about 500+feet above sea level already, whereas the scottish chaps were started at sea level! Needless to say I haven't done anything like this since
