For me it was the viewpoint above the Col de la Bonette in France.
The Bonnet gets billing as being 2860m high but that's only if you go to the vista point that is more than 100m higher than the summit gap.

What about you? Are there any intrepid mountaineers out there? Has anyone been to the Himalaya? Aeroplanes and drug use don't count .

Twice I've gone up Mount Kenya to Point Lenana in the 80's, 16354 feet.

Highest for me is the top (almost) of Mt Teide in Tenerife.
The peak is 3700m above sea level, but regular visitors can only get to 3500m... you need the permission of the Mayor (or something) to climb to the very top.

Needless to say, the views are spectacular.

(I wasn't on a bike)

The top bit is good - sulphur encrusted fumeroles and generally rather smelly. I sneaked up there one snowy Christmas Day when the telepherique was closed, although they hadn't started the formal permission regime then.

Highest for me is the top of Mt. Blanc. Stayed at the Cosmiques Hut, off before dawn across the Mer de Glace, over Mt. Blanc de Tacul, Mt Maudit, the main summit, then down the top part of the Bossons Glacier to pick up the gondola at the Aiguille du Midi middle station.

One remaining lifetime ambition is the top of M. Chimborazo in Ecuador, which was on the list for this summer but has been put off for a year. I can't be putting it off much longer, though, because it's touch and go as to whether in my 60s I'm still capable of getting up it. The summit is the highest point on Earth, measured from the centre.

Intriguing. Do you mean in comparison to the peaks around it or from the earth's core?

It's because the Earth isn't a perfect orb but it's a slightly spurious claim to fame as it's not even the highest peak in the Andes!

Everest Base camp, dad was helicoptered down as he had altitude sickness, had to miss the view though as he was too ill!

on a bike - Envalira on the way out of Andorra, which if I recall correctly, is about 2400 metres. On foot - top of Atitlan in Guatemala, at about 3700 metres. Definitely not worth the considerable effort. Scree, sulpur, and, when I got to the top, visibility of about 10 metres
