...i'm scratching my head at john the monkeys review ..as would most people id think..
How pleasant to be singled out in this manner.

My suggestion is that we simply find different things interesting. As do most people.

I've been watching;

The Tick (Prime)
Jolly, tongue in cheek superhero business. Peter Serafanowicz plays The Tick with an appealing, good hearted idiocy, and various other superhero/villain archetypes show up to enliven proceedings. It's good, and occasionally laugh out loud funny (there's a bit with a vacuum cleaner and a villain that's especially good).

The Mist (Netflix)
An attempt to transfer Frank Darabont's downbeat masterpiece / Stephen King's novella to the small screen. I'm undecided on this one - three episodes in, it has echoes of "Under the Dome" for me, which is good if you liked "Under the Dome", I guess. I'm sticking with it for now.

The State (All4)
Deserving of the critical praise it received, this is a pretty brutal account of four British youngsters who travel to Syria to become part of IS. Their experiences are very different, as are the effects that they have upon them, and the consequences for them and the people they encounter. The leads are all great, and if you can stomach the more brutal scenes (not all of the brutality is physical) it's a must watch.

Rick And Morty S3 (Netflix)
Probably the series that makes me happiest when I notice a new episode to watch. Funny, scabrous, and showing no sign of losing it's edge so far.

Defenders (Netflix)
I find myself dipping in and out of this - it's not that it's bad, it's just that, as with any ensemble piece, some characters are more interesting than others, but everyone is getting roughly the same screen time. I'm also not that sold on the mystical, supernatural nature of a lot of the stuff about The Hand and The Chaste, personally.

Test Match Special 60th Anniversary Match (iPlayer)
At last! Televised cricket in which I reckon I could have a chance of getting a game  I watched this more out of curiosity than anything, having heard it talked about on TMS' coverage, but it turned out to be surprisingly good fun.

Gardeners World BBC2

Started watching it and off, then did three episodes in a row last week. I can usually come away with something useful, but a lot of it is a bit too eclectic for me, e.g. A man growing a zillion types of ferns just because.

Going to keep an eye out for a blueberry bush, to keep potted in the garden for a few years.

It's started raining so I'm catching up on this and Countryfile!

Strike - The Cuckoo's Calling. Loved the 3 parter and looking forward to the 2 parter (The Silkworm) coming up next week. Not read the books, but very enjoyable.

I can't make up my mind about The Mist either. But I've only watched one episode so I've really not given it enough time.

Quite like it, but I can't see how it's going to have the impact of the film. Probably the most devastating ending I've ever seen.

Watched a series from 1964 called Melissa... after being murdered on a night out with friends, the finger of suspicion points to the husband. Turns out Melissa had more than few secrets. There's also a 1974 version which i'll watch when i've forgotten the plot.

Can I count Youtube as I've got it on Virgin media and I have a Tivo box?.

Anyway, found someone has uploaded (in about 8 parts) a fascinating documentary featuring rare behind the scenes footage thought lost, of the making of Disney's epic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Absorbing stuff and the risks that were taken, both physical (James Mason almost drowned at one point) and financial make me re-assess this classic in a new light.

The original giant squid scene is shown, first shot against a tropical sunset and it went all wrong, looked horribly fake etc. So it was remade at a cost of about $250 grand and looked brilliant although it metaphorically almost sunk the studio. Plus they were shooting in widescreen with only one cinemascope lens as they were very rare at the time.

Fabulous classic movie, makes you appreciate what they achieved back in 1954!. Looking out for the blu-ray....:okay:.

Also caught a saturday afternoon screening of Forbidden Planet. Another classic.

Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted
Just started watching Game of Thrones on DVD which I got for a birthday present a few months ago. 3 episodes in, it's okay but not sure what all the fuss is about, so hoping it gets better.

Also started watching Andrew Marr's Making of Modern Britain, which is being shown on BBC2 (I think, but it's also on iPlayer), very enjoyable, I really like the way Marr presents it.

So long as you're viewing remote content, it's telly in my book

That doc sounds fascinating. I'll keep an eye out for it.

(edit) ... here's a link if anyone's interested.
