Cold Blood (2005-2008)

British telly rehash of Silence of the Lambs, with Matthew Kelly playing the Hannibal character and Jemma Redgrave playing Jodie Foster... it's nothing like Silence of the Lambs but it clearly inspired the relationship between serial killer and copper. Some good performances, some not so good. Lots of running around Manchester. Five mini-movies... not bad, but certainly not great. Although I think Pauline Quirke deserved the BAFTA for her utterly convincing portrayal of Pauline Quirke.

La Niña - tv series on Netflix. It is a Colombian 86 episode series based on a true story about a Colombian girl that was taken by guerrilla fighters when she was kid. She gets caught by the government army 10 years or so later and is sent to a program for reintegration into normal society, where she studies to get into medical school. It is not as fast moving or as violent as many of the programs I normally watch but it was a nice change of pace. There is some action and lots of things happening. At times it comes across as sort of a soap opera but a really good one with lots of outdoor scenery and settings.

I started watching it because I am trying to learn to speak Spanish and I heard some of the Colombians have clearer accents and speak slower. I still wouldn't know, I am not at conversational level Spanish yet, even after 86 episodes. I would hear some words i knew but I had to use the subtitles, still got a ways to go in my Spanish but I am glad i watched the series. I thought the actors and actresses did a great job and it was nice seeing something from a different part of the world than what I normally see. I guess you could let older kids watch it, it isn't super violent and even the autopsy scenes are not too terrible. As far as profanity, I wouldn't know ^_^. I did not see a lot of cuss words in the subtitles but did notice a few.

Charmed, and I'm currently on season 7 of 8, watching it via the relatively old-fashioned media of DVD (at least having those, I can rewatch it when I want).
There's lots to like, some good old-fashioned escapist fantasy, and of course Alyssa Milano...

Wow! The imagery is amazeballs, and anything by Neil Gaiman brought to life is going to be powerful.

If I had more to say other than point and say 'wow' I'd create a whole thread for this show.

Ita rare for me to rate something so highly.

Broken, BBC1.

Set in some generic but grim northern town, full of northern actors (albeit with pretty much every northern accent from Sheffield to the Tees, and from both sides of the hill) and for added northern-ness, there was even a sub plot involving a school kid and a bird of prey. Really.

So obviously, being so northern it was unrelentingly grim. And then it got grimmer as it went on. And on. It even managed to make EastEnders (the fly on the wall show about loveable salt of the earth cockerernees) seem full of humour.

In fact there was so much generic grim northern-ness that I had to check the credits at the end to see if @Markymark was involved in the script.

Just watched the last episode of the Supergirl series

Hubs has been watching Iron Fist, some Marvel thing that he found on Netfilx. It's not terrible but it ain't great either. Still, it's vaguely watchable if a bit strange. He's going out tomorrow lunch time so, after riding, I'll settle down with Grace & Frankie, series 3

Is that the one with Sean Bean (His parents really didn't like him much, did they?) and Anna Friel?

It properly picks up around episode 6 when RZA directs. It doesn't really feel as well linked to the other characters somehow. I like it a lot though.

I've now finished Iron Fist and my only real criticism is as above - especially in the penultimate episode when they got scared of a gunfight and I assumed Luke Cage was going to rock up.

There were some occasionally dodgy special effects too, probably a budget thing, for which I blame Marco Polo and it's $200m loss.

It's subtler than the other Defender stories and essentially played like an extended kung fu movie which let to criticisms of "glacial pace" and fight scenes that "lacked impact", making me wonder if they reviewers had watched much kung fu in the past.

All in, another great set up for the Defenders, which leaves even more bad guys out there to fight!
