The Bear

Short, sharp and really well observed (particularly in the second series) show about the trials and tribulations of the staff and family involved with a small restaurant in Chicago. Well deserved the Golden Globe awards it picked up last night as the take on mental health is particularly sensitive and well thought through. The energy is fantastic throughout, balancing absolute mania with incredible tranquility. Highly recommended.

The only character I felt didn't get padded out properly was Ebra who just disappeared, briefly returned, only to be punted again.

I don't think that Marcus' graphic designer room-mate added much to it either.

Otherwise, no complaints, and those are only minor gripes. The Christmas episode was unreal, properly breathless.

Skip the second. Vince Vaughan is terrible in it, and though he tries valiantly Colin Farrell can't quite manage to pull it off on his own. The third was much better and the fourth is due out soon with Jodie Foster so I'm hopeful for that.

Kind of, but not really, other than being set in a restaurant and the theme of addiction (but that's hardly uncommon).

The film was first, the series of The Bear was next, then the series of Boiling Point (which I've not seen, so I don't know if it goes beyond the immediacy of the film).
