The Larkins

I was thinking (like a lot of viewers?) that Norma would stand up in Court & denounce the case as a pack of lies, or that maybe the local telephone operator would state that she’d heard the conversation asking Pop to come to the house?

Maybe next week will reveal?

That's a guilty pleasure in our house too. Pretty sure the truth will out in episode 5 or 6.....

I was impressed with the kids building abilities...

It’s just the odd colourisation that gets me

What the fact that its shot in colour or that its the most ethnically diverse Kent village in the 1950s?
No, the odd tint to the entire scene that’s not sepia, but something ‘nostalgic’
See the opening credits/‘wide-shot’ of the Larkins farm

Incidentally, the house that the Jeraboams live in, that Pop sold for £18,000, would cost over £360,000 'today' (using the Bank of Englands inflation calculator!)

[odd colourisation] ...

How does it compare with the Yorskire Dales in 1939 [See: All Creatures G&S] ?
That’s shot ‘naturally’
If you mean young Tom (Anne & Bert’s lad), in an earlier episode, Anne revealed that they met whilst she “was in service, up at the Hall, & Bert was a farmhand

Does The Handmaid's Tale get any better or is it the slow monotonous grudge all the way through?

only got up to half of series three... it is a drudge but a brilliant one. I keep meaning to pick it up again but fear it will bring me down.

Whilst mooching round HMV looking for Picard, Series Two I happened upon Wheel of Time based on the epic Robert Jordan fantasy series. Didn't even know it had been adapted and it gas been many years since I read the series. Overall they've tried to squeeze vast amounts of story in to very few hours viewing time not always successfully l think. It has however prompted me to try reading the original story again.
