I'm getting to the end of series 1 of American Horror Story... entertaining enough but i doubt i'll be keeping hold of it for a 2nd viewing, although I will give the subsequent series a look.

Murder House is definitely the weakest series I think, mostly because Connie Britton's character ticks every horror cliché in the book.

Asylum, Freak Show and Hotel are all excellent, can't quite make my mind up about Coven because of the Stevie Nicks thing.

Preacher...very wierd but im liking it..

Loving this, especially the opening theme music. The motel fight scene in the latest episode was the highlight of the series for me.

Watched one of those classic BBC programmes on BBC4 last night. called 'B is for Book', about young children learning to read. All part of our new hi-achievement society - as one of the teachers put it 'When I was five, I was making pigs out of play-do' - but for all my reservations, the kids made it an absolutely charming (as well as interesting) hour of television. There's a bit at about 22.00 that I've now watched at least half a dozen times, and it makes me laugh every time I watch it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b07jlzb7/b-is-for-book

Completed a binge of Game of Throne S6, which is a very good season indeed.

I leavened that with another two Parks and Recs, and managed to fit in the Ch5 Cricket show too. Versailles and The Musketeers next, and The Living and the Dead, of course.

It was a very enjoyable programme.
What made it more interesting is that my Little H is 6yo and he loves his reading. We are very lucky that he's what they now call a 'free reader'. ie He'll pick up a book and read it without prompting. He is way ahead at where he should be with his reading skills and we had mini battles with his teacher a while back to get her to move him up reading levels. They were giving him and was bringing home books that he had read with ease a year or two ago.

Musketeers - probably the best thing on major channels of a weekend night (although goodness knows there isn't a lot of competition)

Tried Outcast on Fox with Philip Glenister, but thought it offered nothing new and was a bit slow. Plus I struggled with his "American" accent nearly as much as he did...

And finally Grand Tours of Scotland on BBC2 / iPlayer - travelogue which is oddly more entertaining than it should be.

Game of Thrones (about to start series 4). Had previously not watched it as I'd wrongly assumed it would be crap. Mostly great acting, especially the various northern character actors, great lines, and really rather good. Not too much corny "freedom" stuff, although Dragon Woman is slightly guilty of that, and the sex scenes are a bit corny / embarrassing, but hey ho.
Overall a quality show against my rather snobbish prejudices.

We're interspersing it with Twin Peaks - just about the oddest TV show ever. Switches between corny soap opera, a strange acid trip, comedy show, and murder mystery / sci-fi horror combined with David Lynch's marvellous filmmaking. Even, or maybe especially, the episodes where nothing much happens are the most compelling. Again recommended - having missed it the first time around
Yup, Tom Hardy is in the new series. He's fantastic.
He really was, I've just finished watching the series and his menace, particularly in the Faberge egg scene is incredible. I don't really rate his diversity at all, but when he sticks to what he knows he is class.

Time travelling nonsense based on a Stephen King story, with James Franco trying to save JFK to create a better world. Most of the opening episode had me wondering if I should persevere, the next two were pretty good and then it descended into meandering romantic nonsense for 3 episodes until picking back up again for the last 2.

Entertaining enough to make me want to read the book, but not particularly recommend the show.
