Flint Town . Netflix.

Grim and depressing viewing. Flint Michigan and it's rapid decline since GM pulled it's plant. Population halved in recent years and one of the most violent cities in the US. 67 police officers for 100k population. Oh and lead poisoning in the water supply due to cost cutting to top it all off...
They are some of the weirdest programmes on TV. Some of the presenters are downright scary.
It is a shot of sunshine much needed at this time of year.

Collateral... started better than it finished. The final instalment felt rushed, almost like they'd tried to squeeze episode five into the last ten minutes... and that chat through the door was tiresome. 3/10

Because I have a toddler, I am currently experiencing the world of kids animation, which has a huge range of quality. Dreamworks seem to be the worst for chucking out tawdry versions of great animations (How to Train Your Dragon, Spirit, Puss in Boots), Peppa Pig is one of the most profoundly irritating things I've ever seen and most of Cbeebies is very good, but whoever came up with Bing needs a word with themselves. Mark Rylance voices Bing's parent character and I can't help but think he must have done something dreadful in a past life that warrants his casting.

The most annoying thing about Bing, and other shows, is that they have the children speak in a sort of sing song slightly wrong way.

Last night...mind numbing Holby :headshake:courtesy of my wife.
I huffed and tutted, she told me off and threatened to do the same when I was watching something.

Tedious, poorly acted, stupid story lined drivel.

Depends on what you want from a holiday. Id have been interested to see how it compared with our experience.
Landscape like Mars, barren, rocky, largely devoid of plant ife...then you het to the beaches, mile after mile of largely empty Sandy expanses, lovely waves crashing in, safe enough to swim in, rough enough to be exhilarating, huge dunes and in some places if you walk a mile, you'e the only people in view.
Food, meh, ok.
Hotel (Riu Caribe)...ok, had better, had worse...a lot worse.
Day trips, no too expensive, not many to do...
Local town' and people..town was run down, people were lovely if a little pushy to sell you stuff.
Beaches...awesome.
A holiday to slob out ...theres nothing much else to do barring lovely long beach walks.
I could be a presenter, you'd get no bull from me.

Its pretty strange because in my time I have watched to varying degrees of "I always watch" Holby, Casualty EastEnders and Coronation Street, shameful I know and cannot really blame the wife to be honest. When I click through and come across one these soaps the acting just seems so plastic and false, then the storylines etc. Yet when you are in the habit it all seems passable ok I am guessing you get in to the plot line and miss the hammy acting and poor storylines.

To be honest, from what they showed it just looked like , faux 'traditional' style houses, trees planted in a straight line, really bland surrounded by a run down area.

Yeah, the hotel was 'oddly' styled, like it didn't know what it was. The hotels are like oaisis's on the edges of very poor surroundings. There were LOTS of unfinished and abandoned hotels...some even being pulled down , never having been completed.
It was a strange holiday....but the beaches :wub:

We are very good at adapting to our surroundings, we find the best in what's there, warts n all. Some people would have hated it.
At its best, in the seventies I suppose, Corrie was brilliant. Laugh out loud comedy, poignancy, brilliant scriptwriting, and bloody good acting. I've never really seen the like in any other soap since then. EastEnders has always been as dull as its theme tune.
They were (and may still be) showing "proper" vintage Corrie on ITV3 at about 6am on weekdays.
I suspect they've hidden it away there as the quality of writing it had back then it would knock todays version into a cocked hat.

I like quirky and unusual. Beach is great for a short time but I also need something to do apart from snorkle.
