Porridge can be boring but with Jam and raisins in it can be ok and I am convinced it's a good fuel

I like SIS berry flavour energy bars, but for a bit of indulgence the cafe at the top of Box Hill does a good treacle tart

Haven't looked into it but i'm going to guess the sachet stuff isn't anywhere near as good as the "real thing" for you energy wise? I just eat it at mo because it's quick and easy!! great posts so far lots of good info for newbies thanks!!

Before the ride, any slow burn carbohydrates like people have mentioned, fruit will give you some initial energy too.
On my club rides (~70mi) I take 750ml of poweraid ion4 (replenish magnesium potasium etc.) and 750ml of water, but that's with a coffee and scrambled egg stop at 35 miles
If I wasn't stopping it'd be homemade oat honey flapjack with raisins or something similar. After the ride eat something with a good source of protein.

Soak the oats for an hour 2 mins in the microwave, 1:2 ratio, and whatever on top, can do up to 50 miles with nothing else all day bar a couple of coffees and a few fruit pastilles, that was Wed, to day a little less distance, but a P.B.B. or two between rides.
