Hi vickster literally just got off phone and have put deposit down on one for Tuesday, I can do a test ride if I leave photo Id, I really loved the pendelton but I just don't think 7 gears is enough, I feel so torn :-)

Cheers for the number, just rang them, even if I take it home, and use it, albeit with care so it stays as new as poss I can still return it with 90 days :-)

Pendleton please, gotta love our Vicky!! plus, it looks lush. the Apollo looks garish and cheap.

Gears?. The likelihood is you'll find 3 that you like and use them more than anything else. So maybe more than a few is a waste. Perhaps walk the big hill bear your house for now until the muscle in your leg is built back up.

I would say, that this type of bike is built for the rider who isn't going to be hunting strava segments or beating the peleton to the finish line

So less gears is most probably the right move for the style of riding I expect you'll enjoy on her.

Good luck

Edit,
just read to the end...must do that more often.
Trek is a nice bike and yes it has more gears. Still prefer the Pendleton though...sorry I'm not helping am I?

Double Edit.
Okay, so bottom line. the trek is lovely but it's trying to be a Pashley, which lets face it, if you had a £700 budget, would have been the bike you bought (probably). The Pendleton isnt trying to be anything else, its an original...a first no less and I love the beach cruiser fusion in the design of the frame and components.
7 gears will make you much stronger much quicker, you'll have no choice!

there, is that more helpful.

Get the Trek if you are riding on anything less than flat. Once you are fitter, you can sell the Trek and get the Pendleton...or just have both ;)

The Pendleton is prettier no denying. however and i am a hater of black bikes, get trek. if it is going to be a struggle to ride the Pendleton, you might get disheartened before getting fitter and it will end up an ornament which keeps the spiders company in the shed. Get the trek I say

Vickster I'm getting the trek, assuming the test ride goes okay, spoke to a woman in the park today who has a bike very similar to the pendelton with 7 gears too and obviously rides around here, she looked around my age and a hell of a lot fitter and she said its really hard work going up the hills around here, so at least my hankering for the pendelton has waned somewhat :-)
