I guess the question is what are the gear ratios like with the 7 gears, need someone else to assess though, as I understand nowt about gears!

If you want more gears then get them to upgrade the chainset. You'll lose the chainguard though and need a bit more cabling.

I don't know, but I wouldn't get Halfords to do it - find a friendly local bike shop. I am guessing under £100 with parts?

Hi, vickster, I actually went to Evans cycles looking for this particular bike, but they had none in store, and were quite snotty when I asked them if they could get one in, so was a wasted trip, which is a shame since I like trek bikes

Both are good basic bikes, fully equiped, good gear range, sensible road wheels and tyres from respectable manufacturers.
The Carera Subway used to be an excellent bike, but it seems to have lost it's way and is too blingy and neither one thing nor another.

I dont think the DSR applies to click and collect. You are still buying it at the store and the 90 day return only applies to unused items. So using the bike removes that option (I think)

OK maybe not DSR but their website says 90 day returns even on bikes. Presumably the OP just wants to try the bike for size etc, and then take it away, so it wouldn't be used. It's not like Evans don't sell on their bikes even if someone else has had a test ride.

I'd call Evans head office and talk to CS, they have been helpful whenever I have called
