Oiled the spring on my bell. That’s better for the dog walkers on the cycle ways. Luckily the dogs hearing is better than most owners.
I had a civilised discussion about bells with some walkers on the Rochdale canal towpath a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think that overall they would help much given how the walkers didn't hear any of the other noises (noisy freehub, clicking brake levers, coughing, me calling out a polite 'excuse me, please'!) that I and my bike were making as I approached, but at least if I have a bell then they can't complain about me not having one!

The guy next door asked if I would service his kids bike. Nothing too much wrong, just dirty, dry and out of adjustment... the rear derailleur worked, I just can’t figure out why...

Sometimes its amazing how badly screwed up a bicycle can be while functioning in an acceptable way.

Plastic coated for corrosion protection.
This could catch on…..

I deploy the loud voice back up if necessary. If they say why so loud, I explain that their hearing wasn’t good enough to hear a bell rung several times, thus some volume was necessary.

Picked up the Colnago World Cup from a nice chap. He'd not used it for a couple of years.

Set off stripping it back to the frame, parts in degreaser, frame G3'ed and T-Cut. New cables, bar tape, pads, bottle cages and gravel tyres. Fitted the gravel tyres to my hardly used Aksiums. The Fulcrums the bike came with will get a service and wear road tyres.

Almost finished except chain, setting gears and rear cantis going back on.

Frame did have lots of micro scratches as you'd expect from a CX bike - similar issue when I bought the 'used' BMC XC MTB for MrsF, but a good application of scratch remover, and some patience, it's all out. Couple of small areas of cable rub that I touched up and covered with either black or white electrical tap to stop it happening again. Seems quite light. Realy pleased and can't wait for a blast.

This won't be a commuter as there are no fittings for panniers/guards as it's a race bike. Fitted 38c tyres, but reccon I could go to 45c.

The bike had a couple of Elite carbon/plastic cages that I don't like - Elite Ciussi are my go to on everything.

I still need to do a bit of work on the chainset and cassette, as there is a sticky residue where the oil has collected general dust as it was in the seller's attic for two years.

Really pleased how it's turned out with a bit of elbow grease.

I recon I could get away with a bar bag and saddle pack for any 'explorations'.

Just need to service the original wheels and get a spare cassette, and this could be a handy mountain goat on the road. 34x32 bottom is easier to stomach than 39 x 26 on my two road bikes.

Bottom bracket replacement time. It took about 30 minutes to remove the BB- that doesn't include chasing my son around the house everytime he stole one of my tools (mallet, removal tool, Allen key. He thought it was hilarious) to get it back and about 5 minutes to replace. BB is now silky smooth.

My Daughter does the same.

Thought I'd have a quick fettle of the poor shifting on one of the clunkers we use at work.

Tools out.... Tools away..

Saw this horror while on the train a few days ago, that must be a pig to ride. And to clip your ankle on while on the train

Yesterday was meant to be a try out of 11-40 cassette but that showed I really did have a bent derailleur hanger as it was okay with the longer road link on until on the 40 when pinging of the spokes occurred. Deep cleaned the 11-34 cassette, a couple of attempts of cleaning in situ failed to achieve much so dismantled it into its constituent parts and cleaned each individually; aside from the combination part an ultrasonic cleaner helped. Almost as good as new

Wanted to change my Gatorskin Hardshells off the Orbea today but just couldn’t get the bead to budge off the rim for the life of me. Was actually concerned that I might damage my wheel I was having to put so much force into it.

Ended up sacking it as the hands were getting raw. Tool ordered for tomorrow. Glad I never had to do this at the side of the road, would definitely have been stranded.
