There are two types of posts on tubeless tyres.

One about the amount of time and effort you have to spend through to get them working and also then to keep them working.

And the second about how brilliantly they minimise the amount of time and effort you spend fixing punctures.

Confusingly, these are often by the same person.

Aah but you see, punctures normally happen when your miles from home and the weathers foul. So whilst I spent a good hour replacing the rim tape, which is routine maintenance, I was in the warm and with some good tunes on and a cup of coffee to hand.

Aside from a couple of minutes topping up the sealant every 6 months or so, that's the last I'll need to touch them until I replace the the tires in a year or two.

I haven't had a puncture in years...

Today I continued to work on my Spa Aubisque in preparation for its fourth trip to the Netherlands in a month.

I've fitted a genuine KMC chain after having two chains reach 1% lengthening after, I estimate, about 1000 miles each. Both came from a reputable supplier and have been well-treated, but I guess suppliers also buy counterfeit chains sometimes.

I refitted my Spa Nidd saddle for extra comfort and found the source of mediocre gear changing - the cheapie cassette spacer had disintegrated allowing the cassette to move very slightly. New spacers ordered.

My Carradice luggage was washed, scrubbed and dried in the sun.

Next job is to fit new brake pads.

Fitted the new chain and cassette to the lad's bike, thankfully the 11 tooth does indeed mean the chain clears the seat stay so all 9 cogs can now be used. Adjustment of the limit screw to enable selection of all gears and a twerk of the b screw and all is well. Indexed downtube shifters really do work very well.
