Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Started work on the Ridley Fenix SL build. It'll be slow, as I'm not really sure what's being added to the frameset, but as a start it's had:

- A Bontrager XXX aero handlebar plus Bontrager XXX stem.
- The carbon Fizik R1 seatpost from the previous Merida Scultura plus a black and yellow Fabric saddle which should match the frame.
- A Dura-Ace 9000 rear derailleur which might stay.

Next up is the bottom bracket. I've a Dura-Ace press-fit in a box but not enough hands to fit it. It's either that or an adapter, which might have to be a temporary solution.

Just fitted Ergon handlebar grips and a Zefal mirror onto the GLWs Brompton. :okay:
She'd seen my recently fitted Ergon grips and decided she needed some - ! :laugh:

I took the wheels that were on my "ruby Burton" when it came back from Edinburgh, cleaned them up fitted some 23c Gatorskins (from the cellar) and a cassette put them in my "black Burton" (re-badged Kinesis Racelight). Also swapped over the bars and stem (also from the "ruby Burton"). Adjusted the indexing on the rear mech. This is my "bikeability teaching" bike. No mudguards so I can remove wheels and pack it easily in to the car boot as required.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
New FD came for the commuter so i put it on , oddly the old one which i though was stiff moves freely and the cable when not attached moves freely but join it altogether and it doesn’t shift the mech and feels really stiff .
WTF !! :cursing:

No bike fettling, but a bicycle handlebar has been re-purposed as a prop/brace so that I can have the solar panel for the car's trickle charger flat against the car's back window in the direct sunlight.

Changing gears (from 44:17 to 49:20) on a Fixie can be more effortful than anticipated - in particular if there is a crank change involved (from Sturmey Archer to Miche Primato Pista) which requires a bottom bracket with a longer spindle (finally from 107,5mm to 113,5mm) and spindle of the intended 110,5mm bottom bracket sticks out on the right side just as far as the 107,5mm spindle. At least the chain line with the Miche crank is roughly 1mm less off and the chain ring reels much less than the one on the Sturmey Archer crank.

I've fitted the new Shimano CX50 cantis to my Kona 'cross/gravel project and set them up, followed by fitting the gear cables. This is a job I've done more times than I can count, but somehow this time the right hand cable end managed to wiggle past the socket in the lever and wedge itself behind the workings. I couldn't get it out in situ and in the end I had to partially strip the lever in order to extract the cable. It's all back together now and working fine.

With looking forward to Spring, the 531 framed early 80s demi-course was for fettling:

* Aimed to reduce the gearing with a TA 33T chain ring (original 36T) on the Sakae double chainset, but it required 1mm spacers at the spider for good alignment.

* VXS (mid cage) rear derailleur then wouldn't handle the new wrap well - swapped out for a VGT Luxe GT. This derailleur was about three continents away from connecting at the Gipiemme dropout - making it impossible for the angle adjust/ B screw setting. Maybe designed for stamped/ longer dropouts?

* Third time all good; Cyclone II GT fitted & working well- has a notably reduced distance re angle/ B screw than the VGT.

* VX front derailleur installed

* New Paselas fitted

A couple of weeks ago I was a bit pleased with myself for solving my Front Light Attachment Problem, reported earlier in the thread

IMG_7236.jpeg

Initially, fish were swimming, as they say. My world was at peace, and steadily lit. But then something changed, in the air: since those heady early days, the lamp became increasingly wobbly. Unpredictable. No, I didn't confront the problem. Yes, I allowed myself to live in denial. Then -yesterday- CLANG, CRUNCH, BOINK:

The light lives on, (and is destined for a less dramatic environment on the handlebar of my commuter bike). I blame myself- stupid stress-raisers caused by serrated brake washers. Also, erm, aliexpress may have been involved.

Anyway I bought another light. I'll try hanging it off my computer mount. See how that goes.

I have to commute to work today, 26km over the hilly Forest of Dean, and I have to take a change of clothes. The only bike in the stable with a pannier rack and mudguards was my fixed wheel, and frankly I couldn't be arsed with fixed today. So I've dug around in the massive pile of crap in the shed, found some mudguards and fitted them to the Dawes Audax I bought last week. Bingo! A winter commuter with gears.
