New gloves. Previously had sealskins but still got numb cold fingers. Saw a vid about cold water diving gloves (cressi 2.5) and I must say they are brilliant. Toasty hands at 5 degrees! Not touchscreen compatible which is a pain , but I will fix that…..

Arriving today is a new 27x1 1/4 rear wheel for my old 1975 Galaxy.
The wheel on it has a split on the rim. I also have a new 5 speed block in the shed waiting for it.
The new polished alloy wheel is from Bankrupt bike parts near Birmingham.

I've used Bankrupt Bike Parts on a number of occasions for hard to find NOS (new old stock) and their prices are reasonable. The problem I find with them is that a lot of things are unfortunately out of stock. I guess they get what they get when they're buying bankrupt stock.

I have put an offer in on some Shimano MW7 (701) BOA winter boots. Half a size down from my current MW7's (700) but same size as my RW5 road boots. £70 for a pair thats had a winter's use. Should fit fine as I wear the MW7 with anything upto really thick socks. Reviews say newer shoe is more normal sized, rather than one up . Need another pair of Winter boots as it seems thats the only shoe I've been using for over half the year given how wet its been.

Decent price as there is a small nic in the side which I'll repair (doesn't leak apparently) and I'll shove 'em in the washer as my current pair came up smashing. RRP is around £200.

I was going to try and buy an entire bike today from fancy London. I had an appointment for a fitting and speccing up (not really my thing but they seem to insist) for midday, so had planned to ride in (approx 115km) to try and work off some Christmas excess.

After 10k I get a rear flat and unfortunately it appears that it’s an issue with the seal on the rim rather than a something where I can just stick in a worm. It’s still dark and the tyre is a sod to get off and on, but eventually I manage to get a tube in. I’m right on the limit of time now, so when I get a puncture 500m down the road I’m less than delighted. It appears the local geology has played its usual trick and stuck a bit of flint in. The tyre is even more intransigent this time, so I‘d be unlikely to make the appointment time. I’m disappointed, but there’s plenty of time to get home, shower and get a train.

Engineering works. No trains.

Two things, both of which l'm pleased as punch with:-

1) Cateye BM-45 bar end rear view mirror. I bought it really to help with my Bikeabillty coaching so l can keep an eye on the kids behind. But after 30 mile test ride with it yesterday l wished l'd have bought one years ago now! In fact l've just ordered two more.

2) Knog Blinder Link rear light that is specifically for mounting on a rack. Bit expensive, but boy is it bright and eye catching!

Big fan of the blinders. Despite the name the large surface area makes them very visible without blowing out people’s retinas.

I have been deliberating for weeks about the best way to improve my bicycle navigation, have a back up for communication, and all those other essential things that live on my phone.

Today I bought a new sim free android phone from Argos for £70. I spent a happy afternoon getting everything working on WiFi and then did a short test.

Set up a 1km route on cycle.travel, walked out the door away from WiFi, and, sure enough it directed me around the houses and back home. ^_^

This may seem very basic to you tech-savvy people, but to me it's brilliant!

I've had Knog lights in the past and have always been impressed. I've been looking for a decent rack mounted rear light for ages and literally stumbled on this a couple of days ago. Really pleased with it, it has a selection of proper stand out flash patterns. It would be even better if l could find somewhere in the UK that sold the spare mounting backing plate. I could then swap it between the two bikes l have with racks fitted to them.

Bought a 175mm Campy 'Racing T' triple crankset for Blue Bella, but it has some toe overlap even with my road shoes and a 25mm tire. So, it will go on (red) Bella instead, and I ordered a Velo-Orange Grand Cru triple in 165mm length for Blue Bella, back in stock at a reasonable price.

My MicroNew brifters and derailleurs arrive tomorrow, so I will be busy. :okay:

I need a new shackle lock.
For convenience a set of 4 keyed alike would be very handy.
320mm or so to make parking easier.
Sold secure, gold or diamond to keep the insurance company happy.

I know Abus do it, but the lead time is quoted at 6 weeks! And the prices merit a mention in the "having a laugh" section.

Suggestions for keyed alike suppliers

Yesterday, I shouted ding boing at a pair of ladies, one of whom nearly fell in the canal. Yes, the bell that was supplied with my pretty expensive bike never worked properly. Then the clacker snapped off which sealed it's fate.
So, off to Halfords where I paid £3 for a new (basic) bell. It was either that or £2.00 for a children's 'Apollo Firechief' one - which I didn't buy. One has one's image to consider you know.

Q. What do you call a bell that doesn't work.
