Thinking about how much I dislike dolphins made me think about marine life a bit more, and I don't mind whales.

They are idiots too, but at least they have a bit of panache.

But we do eat a lot less meat than we used to. One, I'd much rather have less of a good-quality and high welfare meat and really enjoy it, than have a plate heaped high with the intensively-reared meat. As a cook and foodie, the difference can be quite startling. And two, as has been mentioned upthread, it is in part due to the environmental impact of meat production.
This is my philosophy currently too.
(I'm not as good at achieveing it as I'd like - too many cheap bacon sandwiches - but I'm moving that way ... )

I've had an ostrich burger from a burger van in Grimsby
Tesco had kangaroo meat at one time. I didn't try it because it was mega expensive, but I wish I had now, as it was the only chance I got. It didn't last long, so I suppose it was either not up to much, or too expensive for everyone else too.

Then there was the time the local chippy was selling shark....

I seem to remember several UK Supermarkets used to sell horse meat products and products containing good %ages of horse meat. But due to labelling issues such products were not appropriately labelled so it was difficult for consumers looking for it couldn't find it (in reality their beef lasagne in their trolley was probably the horse meat variant).

Buffalo, kangaroo, wild boar, horse, mouflon, venison, zebra, ostrich, frogs legs, goat, snails, wagyu, alpaca, squirrel, woodpigeon, and smoked chicken. It seems that the crocodile is currently off the menu, perhaps it wasn't snappy enough.

Brownie points if you didn't need to look up mouflon & wagyu.

I've eaten the majority of those at one time or another. Some are quite nice, others are a waste of good garlic butter...

I like horsemeat. Wish it was more readily available here in the UK. I absolutely adore Filet d'Anvers (cured and smoked horsemeat)

I tried ostrich maybe 25 years ago but don't remember what it was like.

That Richard Tice bloke lives not far from here and he has ostriches (ostrich? Ostrii?) in one of his field.

Ostropods.

Quite tasty. Most of the "exotic" stuff I've eaten has been, usually quite similar in texture but with varying levels of "meatiness" in the flavour, which is largely determined by the diet of the beast I reckon.

I remember there was a fad for exotic or unusual meat. Maybe in the 90s? Also newspaper articles about enterprising farmers who were branching out into keeping wildebeest or ocelots or some such.

I remember trying a couple of these. I think Ostrich was very dark red.

I was vegetarian for a couple of years back in the 80's then one night I walked past my local Kebab shop after a few pints of frothy anaesthetic and the smell drew me in, Chris cooks over Charcoal in his shop and for years never had Donner in there, Chicken skewers and likewise Lamb, Beef and Pork but also Loukanika and Pastourma sausages (Greek Cypriot)

Pretty omnivorous these days but probably a couple of 'meat free' days a week

They used to sell dogfish as rock cod.
