The Beast...South Korean film.Plenty of violence and brutality and stylishly shot.Thriller about a power struggle of two cops, trying to outdo each other and solve a murder case.Similar to many others but well worth a watch.
Sicario...seen this a few times but still a great film.Tense even if you know what's coming 😁

Finally saw Oppenheimer last night.
Very impressive, and filled in many gaps in my knowledge of the Manhatten Project.
Far less confusing than most Nolan films; just a jumping timeline to wrap my head around.

Could have seen the movie a while ago but my son had wanted to see it on Imax so we waited several weeks for a convenient screening on the BFI Imax in London. My very first imax experience, and that 20metre-high screen was absolutely breath-taking for sweeping overhead landscape shots.
The sound system was something else too. My ears are probably still ringing now.

It was a truly immersive experience, making the 3 hour film feel more like 2 hours.
9/10 for the film.
Maybe 10/10 for the cinema.

We watched Ludo, a very entertaining and well crafted Indian film with a underlying theme of fate, represented by a ludo game. Intertwined stories of a clandestine affair with a dodgy alibi, a murder, a ganster's lair getting blown up, stolen money, and an embarrassing sex tape.

Brilliant film -highly recommended

(note this is the 2020 film not the 2015 horror film of the same name. I've not seen the latter which gets a woeful 2.8 score on IMDB)

Went to the pics with Mrs G last night to see the latest instalment of Mission Impossible! It was good , crazy and as far fetched as normal ! We then came back and chucked on Heart of Stone on Netflix and it was a complete rehash of the film we had just gone to see lol ! Just not as good !

We went to see Equalizer3 at the Imax cinema for £3 yesterday (National Cinema Day).

Predictable stuff but okay. The enemy seemed ridiculously weak and ill-organised as nemeses go in this type of movie. The thing that kept me interested, and I had no idea before it started, was that it was set in Naples, Sicily, and the Amalfi coast, with a fair bit of Italian and Neapolitan dialogue.

That was my other choice as well on the £3 deal ! On a side note , reserved our tickets online 2x£3 plus a quid each booking fee !! Granted not a lot of money but I detest these extra charges which now seems to be the norm .

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny... certainly nowhere near as dire as Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and better than Temple of Doom (which apart from the minecart scene, is mostly tiresome), but certainly not a patch on Lost Ark or Last Crusade... so middle ranking of the five.

And don't forget, it's you who's doing the actual booking, downloading/printing the ticket! They should knock a pound off.
Printing? How quaint!

I rather liked it and though it one of the best of the series, and arguably the least silly plot wise. Obviously you have to "suspend disbelief" a sit were but it hung together and was fairly consistent with its own rules

Any Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can

2 unnusual Clint Eastwood films in that they have a comedic edge to them, apparently he made the first one as a way to broaden his appeal. The first one is the more serious of the 2, though it still has some laughs to it. It has (I didn't know who it was when I've seen it before) Beverly D'Angelo and her addition to the road trip part of the film really enhances it.

The second is a more slapstick comedic affair though still has an underlying menace to it. The film has an air of Smokey and The Bandit about it though the 2 films are different, and the tar scene (and subsequent aftermath) are some of the funniest physical comedy you'll see. The ending is perhaps predicatable but not bad.

Both films are an unnusual mix of Boxing, Country and Western and Orangutans and certainly something to try at least once.

Couple warnings though on the films, in both the biker gang use a fair amount of Nazi (swastika's) images. Unlike the around the same time Blues Brothers at no point does the film try to make the point that Nazis = Bad. And in the 2nd film it does open with a scene of animal abuse in which in all likelyhood an animal dies. Films of their times I suppose (1978 + 1980).

Flightplan (2005): I'd seen it before but forgot how it ended (or maybe I fell asleep). Jodie Foster is excellent as always. A really clever plot which you don't really discover until half way through. A bit of a slow starter but a film that keeps you guessing the whole way through. 8/10
