Patton. Immense. Towering performance from George C Scott as the rampant general. Three hours, never flags. Patton is a force of nature. Tho' Monty is of course the real star. Only kidding.

Harry Brown.

Michael Caine is the elderly ex-SBS trooper who's pushed beyong breaking point by the death of his wife and murder of his best friend. He goes on a killing rampage, but rather than being the invincible vigilante that Bronson played, Caine plays a more sensitive soul, tortured by age, infirmity, and conscience.

One copper is onto him, but no one else believes her, and by the time the truth comes out its too late...

A brilliant performance from Caine, at turns heartless and brutal, yet sensitive and vulnerable. Good supporting performance from Plan B, who is very menacing as the little ****bag out of control and seemingly beyond the power of the police to stop.

Good solid plot, well paced, mint twist at the end. A good solid 8.5.

Where Eagles Dare.

Eastwood and Burton doing action heroes before Schwarzenegger or Stallone even thought of it.

Lots of violence, explosions, and evil Nazzies getting machine gunned. Burton single handedly wiping out half the Nazi forces during the gritty fight atop the cable car. And then there's that stirring sound track - a war film isn't a war film without a rousing tune to go with it, as Dambusters, 633 Squadron, Bridge Over The River Kwai, and The Great Escape all prove.

Alas, by modern standards the special effects are woeful. Even Gerry Anderson wouldn't have been impressed. Burtons attempt to operate a Nazi wireless set are laughable - he is probably to drunk to realise you press the button to speak, release it to listen...

Far fetched, over long, and a needlessly complex plot all conspire to damage what should be a good Nazi slaughtering adventure yarn. Still, its a classic, and despite its faults its hard not to enjoy it.

7/10.

Sabotage.

Brutally violent Schwarzenegger flick. Arnine is the leader of a DEA team, who are being very unpleasantly slaughtered one by one by a very nasty person.

Quite decent plot, gritty realism, and (as one would hope) decent weapons drills.

Not a film that would appeal to astrophysicists, but its not bad as far as very violent action thrillers go.

6.5/10.

I saw that at the cinema and wondered what it is you have to do to get an 18 rating these days.

Ghost in the Shell.

We liked it. Was never going to be as good as the original but then anime is not to everyone's taste.

And why did they feel the need to add the helicopter. It brought nothing to the plot. Helicopters were in their infancy during the war and the Germans had very few. Brill tune though.

I must agree. Very violent, rather gory, but the gore is all the worse because its not caused by far fetched aliens or nutty serial killers.
It's a bit different from the usual Arnie action film, not much in the way of lighter moments or comic one liners, a bit dark but I liked it

The Danish Girl. Two hours of boring angst. I only discovered later that it was up for a rack of Oscars when it came out. God knows why.

Well I watched a film that made the average Drago recommended dross seem like masterpieces.

Midnight Meat Train...

Vinnie Jones plays a subway serial killer and is pursued by a photographer (Bradley Cooper) in a gruesome, bloody, and quite ridiculous film.

The director did do something to make Vinnie's acting better, he didn't give him any dialogue whatsoever...

His 'acting' consisted of hitting people in the face with a big hammer, and pulling strange faces

2/10.
