Here for rides.
I got half way through the article and made an executive decision. I am not going to waste 2 hours of my life seeing this film. It sounds terrible. Don’t these actors ever read a script before agreeing to make a film?
The opening sentence is wrong. It didn't bomb at the box office at all and gave a decent return.

Good decision, we watched it last year, I had pushed it away into a dark corner of my mind until having read the article I remember seeing it, it was bad the 1st time around, I suspect it would be no better the 2nd.

The opening sentence is about the opening weekend. Metro backs them up on that.

If The Guardian and Metro agree, it's probably true

Sometimes you don't need that much. A single passing bus told me all I needed to know about ....

Mississippi Burning.

I'd forgotten just how well scripted, cast and acted this film is. The tension crackles between Dafoe and Hackman, but it's Hackman who steals the day with an absolutely incendiary performance, perhaps the performance of his career. The violence is there, but it's sparse, with a few exceptions more implied than actually graphic, but Hackman just exudes reckless menace, barely contained fury.

If you've not seen it, then you should. 9.5/10.

Legend - Tom Hardy as the Kray twins.

A bit of an improvement over the Kemp brothers version which I quite liked, it doesn't seem to rely so much on gratuitous violence, but tells the story better with a hint of menace to it.

7/10.

Can you believe it ? Mrs V had never seen it !!

She was not happy that he died at the end though

Mrs V : "If you told me he died at the end, I would not have watched it"

Me : "You watch films about Jesus and look what happened to him"

Mrs V : "Yes, but he came back to life"

Can I repeat my joke?

Wow, that's so different to how I remember it.

Also - true fact - I had a VHS of the Kemp brothers version with a that had a bubble in the cover filled with unconvincing but liquid fake blood. Bought it for pennies, ex-hire.

The Florida Project. Really enjoyed it, tho' I hesitate to recommend it as I can imagine quite a lot of people would exit the cinema bearing an expression combining bafflement with indignation. Plot synopsis: small girl lives with her loving but 'bad' mother in a slightly rundown motel in the scrappy hinterland of Florida. And not a great deal happens. But it's as compelling a picture of childhood as I can remember seeing on film, and a film you come out of thinking, whatever else, that you've never seen anything quite like that before.

John Wick. Yeah, I know, late to the party again. Great example of its genre. Funny thing is, films like this defy the basic rules of storytelling, which has always been that the fundamental driver is 'what happens next?' In movies like this you know exactly what's going to happen, but that doesn't detract from the enjoyment. It's like settling down with a nice beer on a comfy sofa, when you know what's coming and you know you're going to enjoy it. I enjoyed it!

Got the Dunkirk movie. You really need a home entertainment 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound setup or a kicking 2.1 sound system with a monstrous sub woofer to 'truly' enjoy this movie, It really adds to the immersion. The sound of artillery firing and impacting in the distance, The crashing waves of the sea, The sound of the engine of the spitfires... Bellissimo!!!! absolutely beautiful!!

Creed... possibly the final 'Rocky' film, but who knows*. An enjoyable if predictable romp through the world of pretend boxing. I missed Paulie.

* just noticed Creed II should be out next year.
