A very stylish, but awfully bleak film about cutural and gender roles. The film's thesis seems to be that you're stuffed whether you try to break out of them, or stay in them. The people that enforce these norms don't end up fulfilled or happy; nor do those who don't, with the only characters emerging from the situation the film sets up relatively unscathed having a sort of stoned amoralism that doesn't look like a good life choice either.

It's a good film, but by no means an easy watch.

Solaris...
George Clooney as a psychiatrist sent to a space station to investigate strange happenings.

Pointless, didnt do it for me, and I love sci fi...cinematically not all that, acting was ok but the story left you not knowing which characters were 'real' or figments of others imaginations and memories.
A waste of 1hr34mins, left you nowhere.

Sin City. Superb. A real one-off, reeking quality and confidence. 9/10. (Not one for the faint-hearted, mind.)
It's a cracker. Not a single frame is wasted. A Dame To Kill For is more of the same (although a bit more daft), part prequel, mostly sequel and worth a look.

I guess we're all different, but I thought it was teriffic: visually stunning, moving and sad, and maybe above all, conveying the "sense of wonder" that sci-fi is supposed to be about. it also showed that Cloonie can act too.

And it breaks the rule that US remakes are crap.

If you thought this was a slow film, you won't like the original

Tom Clancy adaptations take loads of money, people lap up that right-wing nonsense. It's a very silly film, and so is Patriot Games featuring the Sheffield branch of the IRA.

They do, but Air Force One isn't one of them. Personally I quite like the adaptations of Clancy stories (apart from Sum of All Fears) - they are daft but effective thrillers.

Equally daft is Gladiator which I'd still give 8/10.

A pretty standard tale of love, betrayal and revenge, elevated by some cracking fight scenes and cinematography. I always think of it as the ultimate date movie as it fulfills so many different stereotypes and tastes.

Excellent neo noir about revenge, it's aftermarth and the difficulty and messy business of murder. If you enjoyed the darker Coen brother films (Blood Simple, Fargo) then this is for you ( on Netflix).

Was thinking about the new Martin Scorsese film/series? Vinyl

Just watched the trailer, don't think I'll bother

Not as much fun as the original, I thought, although it does have some nicely twisted moments of black comedy. Daft and gory, but I think that the scale of this one mitigates against it a bit, as though the set pieces have pushed aside some of the darkly daft elements so prevalent in my memory of the original.

If you've not seen the first, be sure to watch that - if you've seen the first and liked it, there's probably enough in the sequel for you to enjoy that too.

The Hunger Games, Mockingjay part 2.

Very entertaining and kept me watching it so good score........but the end was a bit weird so not sure if they are thinking about continuing the series.

I view them for what they are, films to entertain I'm not too concerned that Superman fans are upset and equally not overly concerned that Batman fans are also upset....I thought Afflick wasn't too bad as an aging 40 something Batman, I'll look forward to the next one...
I just like these films, if I was to pick a superhero then for me it has to be Batman, I like the darkness of the comics and Batman himself

There's nowt wrong with films for the sake of entertainment (I love the Fast and Furious) I've just heard that this isn't a great one. The Nolan Batman's were really good, the Tim Burton ones are my favourites though.
