I have just watched star trek into darkness . I've seen it before, but it's an excellent film and well, worth watching more than once.
it's a cracker. The other night i decided to watch First Contact again (the StarTrek Next Generation movie), but it turned out that i haven't got round to getting it yet.... the same thing happened last time i decided to watch it too.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

They are good and you can watch them again and again unlike some films that you can hardly watch once.

Agreed on Buffy but I'd put Near Dark (early Bigelow with a lot if the cast from Aliens in it) over a lot of those Vampire movies. Book wise I've a lot of time for Tanya Huff's 'Blood' quintology.

Near Dark is pretty much perfect, it always slips under my vampire radar for some reason. Bigelow is a superb director too, I don't think she's done anything awful.

You're bang on about lengthy supernatural shows too, though I did think that Buffy was consistently excellent. Maybe I need to rewatch as I suspect nostalgia may have taken hold of my memories.

Have you seen In The Flesh? Zombies, rather than vampires, but it's very thought provoking, and quite unsettling. Doesn't bugger about and last for a million episodes either.

I've put off watching this, because of how much I like the book, but I think the film is different enough to stand alone.

It's superb - unsettling in a way you can't quite put your finger on, and Scarlett Johansson is terrific in it.

The festive period has been a rather grim affair in Casa RM.

Last night we watched Aileen: Portrait of a Serial Killer

8/10

Tells the story of a woman let down by family, friends and the judicial system in America. Uncompromising stuff, particularly the way her mind unravels over the film. Having mental health problems of my own and with other family members it was a particularly tough documentary to watch.

And tonight was Dallas Buyers Club

Also 8/10

Mathew McCounaghey and Jared Leto are absolutely brilliant in a fictionalised accounted of the breaking AIDS epidemic in 80s America. It's desperate but heartwarming at the same time which confuses things at times, but is otherwise excellent. I suppose it could have had more of a pop at the FDA, but that's my only real criticism. Watch it.

I think I'll be watching episodes of The Magic Roundabout to cheer myself up over the next few days...

Sure to a lack of electricity in this household (snow bringing down some trees) , this evening was spent watching sherlock Holmes films and an episode of arrow season 2 until the laptop decided that it had had enough! Otherwise we were enjoying them, they have a certain flair to them with that light heartedness of not taking things too seriously.
