what do I buy

Until it gets really cold I'm in a base layer and a breathable windproof waterproof jacket.
When temperatures go negative I'll just add a light fleece in between. All of it is Altura.
Best addition lately has been one of those tubular thingies round my neck.
That's about it.

You won't likely be warm dry and cool, unless you have pretty deep pockets

My altura night vision serves me very well, I rarely need anything under it apart from a ls jersey or running top...depends how hot you run

I'd say it's £60 or £70 very well spent, you can go a bit higher for the more fitted Evo version, the normal one comes up pretty large so check the altura size guides. Google and you may find a bargain on a past model from 2012 or 2013, they don't change much. Go find a retailer to try on and buy

Mine isn't plasticky at all, no boil in the bag at all as long as I don't over layer, and even then not really bitb, just hot. It's a rather nice soft touch, with mesh inside, great vents etc!

Want to buy a winter jacket to ride in must be warm and dry and cool what are you all wearing don't want to buy a bad one cheers

There's nothing wrong with Altura - they are not any more boil in the bag than anything else regardless of cost.

Despite what the expensive garment brands and manufacturers of breathable materials say the whole damn lot are next to useless at allowing moisture from the body to escape during periods of high activity. And as soon as they get wet on the outside they cease breathing full stop.

I have an Altura Blitz and it works fine - if I need ventilation I just drop the front zip low - I'm not into every last % of speed so the extra drag is not an issue.

I am nice and warm with this on even when it us very cold with just a T underneath.

I'm not mean (I have 4 climbing jackets that cost a whole lot more) but I also think that one day I'll come off my bike and if my jacket gets trashed (cost me £49.99 on a deal) I'll fret less than if I was wearing a jacket that cost way more.
