Mmm, pie
Now that's just taking the pee!None...but I did populate some PowerPoint slides with market research data on male urinary incontinence pads...pays the bills eh!
"with fear"? To be fair, that's my opinion of much PHP code but today I'm writing some of that, some perl, hopefully some python and replying to some specifications... just a typical day in this co-op...Legacy code dating back to the 90s? I've got to say, I love TDD. That little PHP project I've been working on: 4200 lines of code, 8800 lines of test code. So, yeah, 2/3 of the code is not in production, and I could have got it into the state I wanted in about 1/2 the time. But I can make just about any change with fear in the future.
My hair is shorter these days
Yes, it's still around - we even have quite a modern compiler now - but parts of our system is over 20 years old. Our back office programs run in "dumb terminals" like this..

Um, with the code he is writing, I'd assume his modem has a switch to go between 1200/90 and 300/300.No bongs? you must be stuck on 14.4k, you peasant.
I don't remember being able to buy a modem in WH Smiths in 1983.Um, with the code he is writing, I'd assume his modem has a switch to go between 1200/90 and 300/300.
<whoosh>that was the sound of that joke going over my head.I don't remember being able to buy a modem in WH Smiths in 1983.
WH Smiths was one of the shops that sold home computers back in the 80s. @Markymark 's program was just the sort of thing some spotty oik would type into one of the display machines.<whoosh>that was the sound of that joke going over my head.
You are going to have to explain it, I'm afraid (I didn't move to UK until '99)
ASDA also had an Acorn and a BBC Micro and we used to write similar but get the screen to fill up with "ASDA staff are nobbers" or words to that effect anyway.WH Smiths was one of the shops that sold home computers back in the 80s. @Markymark 's program was just the sort of thing some spotty oik would type into one of the display machines.
