During the late 1970's I was a bit of a fan of Manhattan Transfer but I lost track of them after a while. The recent death of Tim Hauser had me listening to their music again, on youtube, so I went on play.com to download some of their music, unfortunately they've discontinued their download service so I ended up buying the CD Chanson Diamour The best of Manhattan Transfer, it arrived today and I've ripped it to the computer and uploaded it to the MP3 Player, so I've been walking around this afternoon with a head full of Manhattan Transfer.

Don McClean - American Pie

With video provided by the good folk of Grand Rapids in Michigan in response to a Newsweek article that labeled the city as dying. "The citizens disagreed strongly, and created a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. We felt Don McLean's "American Pie," a song about death, was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope".

Sing along now

Just worked my way through 6 CDs of Louvin Bothers, 12 LPs covering 1952 - 1962. All superb although I skipped over the Christmas album. Anyway this is one of my favourite records ever, Cash on the Barrelhead.

Following the numerous votes (inc. mine) for The Pros & Cons of Hitchiking in the other thread, I decided to treat myself to the guitar stylings of Mr Andy Fairweather-Low.

The album Spirit Of Place, by Goanna, probably the most quintessentially Australian album ever made. Here's a few of my favourite tracks from it:

This one's probably the best known internationally:
