Most people go as fast as they can going away from Coventry!

Probably trying to get it over with???

Fastest I have noticed on my speedo (not the swimming trunks version!) was 110

I blame Genesis - I had just got a new CD and was listening to Drum Duet for the first time
(also a rather whizzy car that I had for a while!)

This was back in 1980 or so, but while on a training ride in Palm Springs CA, my bike computer showed 62 mph coming down Tram Way, can't be sure how accurate the computer was, but it was close at slower speeds, but who knows at higher speeds.

On a Cateye Mity 2, I think. Old skool. I know it felt pretty quick and to be honest, with front and rear panniers it was deeply unwise!

We’re ’very’ flat in Norfolk / Suffolk. If I pedal hard as I can down the biggest (But short) hill near me I get close to touching 34mph. That’s feels brisk for sure. I’m not sure I’d be wholly comfortable doing 82kmh / 50mph 😳 Panniers or not 🤣

I was in my late 20s at the time, an age when you're invincible.

I was in the Outer Hebrides heading for Rhenegidale hostel and it was so windy I had to pedal downhill to do about 12mph. There was then a sharp hairpin bend in the road, so the wind was now behind me. It was like being a champagne cork out of as bottle and I quickly hit 43mph and overshot the turning to the hostel despite hauling on the brakes. Rear panniers only though.
