1952 for me they have mostly been good. All I see these days is laziness. People seem to expect it all to be given on a plate.
I expect to get shot down in flames, and I know there are mitigating circumstances in many cases, but there seems to be an abundance of single mothers with several children who seem to expect to get handouts for everything for their kids and themselves. Whatever happened to giving some thought as to whether you could actually afford kids before you have them.

1956 for me, I see laziness in some sectors and hard working in others, I see people who are happy with debt and like things now and I see people like Skipdiver, I see people writing the old times were better as they sit on the internet. We are all different, and I think we are all part of the mess we are making of this planet.

Mushroom clouds are formed by many sorts of large explosions under earth's gravity, but they are best known for their appearance after nuclear detonations. Without gravity, the explosive's by-product gases would remain spherical. Nuclear weapons are usually detonated above the ground (not upon impact, because some of the energy would be dissipated by the ground motions), to maximize the effect of their spherically expanding fireball and blast wave. Immediately after the detonation, the fireball begins to rise into the air, acting on the same principle as a hot-air balloon.

One way to analyze the motion, once the hot gas has cleared the ground sufficiently, is as a 'spherical cap bubble',as this gives agreement between the rate of rise and observed diameter.

.

As it rises, a Rayleigh–Taylor instability is formed, and air is drawn upwards and into the cloud (similar to the updraft of a chimney), producing strong air currents known as "afterwinds", while, inside the head of the cloud, the hot gases rotate in a toroidal shape. When the detonation altitude is low enough, these afterwinds will draw in dirt and debris from the ground below to form the stem of the mushroom cloud.

After the mass of hot gases reaches its equilibrium level, the ascent stops, and the cloud starts flattening the characteristic mushroom shape, usually aided by surface growth due to the decaying turbulence.

We (The post-war generation) got it on a plate. We didn't get sent off to be killed in war as were previous generations. University education near as dammit free. Affordable housing and/or social housing. Unlike later generations.

Has University education ever been free?

Wasn't the public purse the primary funder back in the day - at least between 1962 and the 90's.

I didn't pay for my uni education, indeed I was given a grant to study!

Like derrick I have worked since the age of 13-14, the difference between me and my kids is that I can retire (eventually) with a decent income...
