We're screwed, aren't we?

I expect to get shot down in flames, and I know there are mitigating circumstances in many cases, but there seems to be an abundance of single mothers with several children who seem to expect to get handouts for everything for their kids and themselves. Whatever happened to giving some thought as to whether you could actually afford kids before you have them.
This grinds my gears significantly too.
Have all the kids you want, BUT DO NOT expect the rest of us to pay for them...

Can the NHS claim that treatment is free even if we all know its paid for by the taxpayer?

No it's not free at all - we all pay for it. Just free at the point of access.

If you are lucky those kids will pay for your retirement, you never know one of them may even find the cure to a disease that would have killed you, worse case they could be the ones wiping your bum when you are a jibbering wreck in a care home.

The care home staff take care of the bum wiping. That's why families stick their coffin dodgers into them.

Absolutely none of that is any excuse for unrestrained reproduction at others' expense. And, dammitall, we DO NOT NEED endless more humans. Time the NHS only paid for 2 pregnancies, tops. All the rest, the bill's in the post...

But if you're rich enough it's OK to pollute the planet seems to be the message here, but that's OK as that's how it is anyway....

Always seems to be the way, unfortunately.

Not every single mother is so by choice, that's a given. But to choose single parenthood in the full knowledge that someone else will be picking up the tab, that's a no-no, and nothing can justify it.
I suspect that the number of people who feel the need to justify themselves to you is not high.

I am struck by the underlying vehemence of your criticism of a class of people. In order that I can understand better, may I ask, do you know single parents or the children of single parents yourself, either in real life or on this forum? Are you attacking an abstract class, or are you attacking real people?

If I'm "attacking" anything, it's the mindset that says global population growth isn't the single biggest cause of our problems. It's not remotely relevant who I know or don't know.

Thanks for replying, but now I'm confused. Your previous comments were about people (specifically single mothers) who have children and expect the rest of us to pay. You specifically said "have all the children you want..." - now you say your concern is global population growth?

Global population growth is plainly the major problem. It is not controversial, in any way as far as I can see, to object to unfettered child production when there is no means of support except the state. Last answer on this subject.
