I've just taken delivery of my new Wahoo TrackR strap and monitor. To my astonishment it has a usb-c charging cable. I can genuinely say I have never seen usb-c charging in the UK. If you consider buying the new Wahoo TrackR HR monitor and strap beware of this. You'll also need to shell out another £10-15 for a new plug to charge it from. BIG mistake by Wahoo. Personally I'm very unhappy. I can't decide if I should send it back or buy a plug. Seriously p***** with Wahoo about this.

I have some usb c sockets on computer and a couple of plugs. To utilise all those old usb sockets I bought a few little adapters .Convert your old usb to usb c.

Wut? Almost nothing of quality is sold with anything other than USB C.
Cycling wise I use Garmin, Wahoo and Exposure. In the house we have three Samsung products. All I would argue are quality brands. None require a usb-c charging cable.

A brand new (August) Wahoo Roam doesn't use a usb-c cable. I feel at the very least a quality company should warn customers the product will probably require a new plug.

As I said elsewhere, USB-C is everywhere. Virtually all small electronics devices are USB chargeable and it's all USB-C. I wont buy a device that is anything else (USB). Even my shaver is USB chargeable.

Even Apple had changed it's more recent devices from their bespoke Lightening to be USB-C. My 6 year old laptop only way to charge is USB-C.

My Karoo Hammerhead is usb c. My android phone is usb c. So was my one before. And the one before that. All iphones from 15 onwards use USB c. So do some bike lights. Exposure use an old fashioned proprietary cable. My 4 sets of earbuds, ranging from 0 to 4 years old use USB c.

Most phone chargers are now USB c to USB c. My Garmin watch is USB c to 4pin.

The only thing I've bought in the last two years that isn't is a cateye light.

Why don't you just use a USB A to USB C cable?

I think this is what you are talking about, no? The charger end of the cable, rather than the device port.

Usb C has been around for almost 10 years. USB C is a far superior connector in terms of speed, both charging & data transfer. It's symmetrical, no struggling to insert the correct way without your glasses on.

That must be a brand new version 1 Roam then... The version 2 model does!

Ah, that's what you call that!
My new tablet, a Samsung, came with charging cable but no charger.
Yes, I bought a charger, for £15, what can you do?
None of my other hardware uses it, but maybe the next device I buy will.
I felt like you: Ama*on should have said, at least I could have bought both at the same time.
Or maybe they wrote it in the description of the item, I must have missed it.

Wahoo roam is sold as USB C charging and given the short time it takes to charge pretty sure it's USB C charging.

Surely a USB wall plug isnt £15 .

As has been said USB C charging is the standard now. Id be pretty pissed off if a device wasn't USB C tbh.

New versions of all of those would.

Your Wahoo Roam may be new, but it is an old model, the Roam V2 (which has been around for about 2 years) uses USB-C. My last two Samsung phones, my Samsung tablet and my wife's Samsung phone all use USB-C. As does my Ravemen front light (the cateye rear light still uses usb micro).

It is quite common for modern devices to come without a wall plug, because most people tend to have a surplus of those.

OK. To be clear. In the image below the black cable shows the magnetic connection to the TrackR. The opposite end is usb-c and requires a three pin plug with a usb-c slot

In the house we have numerous devices with a usb-c port on the device. On every one of these the usb connection to the plug is as illustrated by the white cable.

I have never seen or owned a device, including a three month old Wahoo Roam v2 and a three week old Shimano GRX di2, which required three pin plug with a usb-c slot to charge it.

Wahoo, in my view, are shipping a product that cannot work out of the box until the consumer buys a plug. It should be shipped with a plug or a conversion cable.

It is certainly not the standard charging connection. It may be on devices but not into the power supply.

I'd be complaining if I got a device with a USB-A (white one above). USB-C is everywhere. Using USB-A power adapter really limits the charge rate and makes recharging a lot slower.

All Ape devices I've purchased in last few years all USB-C cables (both ends), no old USB-A
