The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
I'd rather have the 501s than some of the own brand wheels found on £1K+ bikes. I've been using them on the wet weather bike until recently, just replaced with Aksiums as the rims are getting thin after a couple of years winter use. Good kit on the Ventura, esp at £400!

Calm down tiger :rose:
Yes its a forum and other people looking to buy this bike may find the information you are giving . But its also good for those buyers to know that even though the components you mention are fitted on more expensive bikes they are not held in high regard at that price point .
Let's leave at that shall we!

I get it, I get it!
I can't believe I've read a couple of pages about how good or bad these wheels are. I never said they were terrific wheels, purely that they were fitted to other more expensive bikes as standard, I'm well aware the cp50 which when I bought it cost £400 will not have a wheelset costing a couple of hundred quid or more! I'm also well aware that some people will swap out a wheelset as soon as they buy a bike.
When I purchased my bike (and I'm happy with my bike) there was bugger all information about it anywhere, this thread changes that. If anybody else happens to be interested in the cp50 they can find this thread and read all about my and others experiences.
My observation about the wheels merely shows that they will not be buying unknown components only fitted to "cheap" bikes but infact wheels with a good reputation at the budget end of the market sometimes fitted to more expensive bikes. That is it. Read into that what you want.
One day I might mention how the Sora gearing is fitted to much more expensive Specialised (or any other brand of bike) but will probably be flamed as " everybody changes that to 105 etc etc as soon as it leaves the shop". Or the Ritchie bars, stem and seat post etc or the Jagwire cables. It's just information, somebody may find it useful, I know I would have done when I was considering buying one.

Easy there tiger, it's just a bike. I think you've made it very clear you're ecstatic with your 'bargain'. When Agros finally shift the last of these, we can all get on with our lives again .

Lol, the thread title is "Ventura cp50 (argos)" if you don't like reading about a budget bike from a dubious source then skip to the next thread, meanwhile I'll write what I want about it. ^_^

Through trial, testing and error of adjusting the saddle height, angle and handlebar angle, I've seem to have found my ideal snug comfy position.

At first, I thought it was due to the saddle alone, being the only uncomfortable factor, and I'm coping much better now.

Even though I've upgraded my seat to a Spoon, plus a gel seat cover, my bottom still gets kinda uncomfortable.

Can anyone recommend a really comfy seat or have any other ideas?

Cheers.

That's pretty much what I've done, and like you I've got a "spoon" coming to replace the standard saddle.

The CP50 Ventura is still doing great, and hasn't disappointed me, so far.

All well and I'm gaining more experience and knowledge since joining this forum and riding out more often.

How's our fellow CP50 owners, getting on?

Cheers

Are you wearing padded shorts? You'd be much comfier wearing them on the saddle rather than using a gel cover.

Hi Justin,
The Spoon is a good bang for the money saddle and maintains good overall comfort, even on long rides.

I've been wondering if a Thompson seat post upgrade, will make any noticeable improvement in the ride, compared to the oem Ritchie one?

Cheers all

No, i don't currently wear those padded shorts, but will look into getting a pair.

Cheers for the information, Andy.

Hi jeffo50, Yeah definitely use padded shorts! I started off with cheap muddy fox ones but they only have a thin layer of foam, did a couple if 60 + mile rides on them. Soon progressed to proper bib shorts with decent padding and no underwear to prevent chaffing or getting too hot.
Did wonder about replacing the seat post with a tifosi carbon one
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/tifosi-carb...uiOSV3G9_dm|pcrid||pkw||pmt||prd|5360330843uk at £32 but currently spending a bit renovating my old mtb so think that might wait a while and not really sure if there would be a huge improvement.
Haven't been out a lot lately on the cp, a couple of 40 mile rides over the last month and a couple of mtb rides. Fitted crud road racer 2's which work really well it's just been a bit cold and icy for me lately, maybe next week might be better! There's a timed reliability ride this Sunday at my local club 46 miles in 2hrs 46 I think which I may do if it's not too frosty.
Otherwise the bikes been good, just need to keep riding a bit to keep myself somewhere near bike fit, as it's me who's the weak link not the bike :bicycle: Oh and I'm going to change the bar tape as the white is starting to look a bit grubby!

Thanks for the info. to which I will look into. I think I'll leave my seat post alone, till later on in the year.

I was checking out those muddy fox bibs at Sports Direct, which seem a bargain at around 20 quid! They have the blue looking foam padding inside, which looks quite durable.

It'll be strange for me because I've never gone out without wearing any undies! How do our fellow cyclists feel, when they first ventured out wearing no undies?

I'm making small progress, each week as I am a total unfit newbie.
I'm 5' 10 and was 13.5 stones and after 3 weeks of smallish amounts of cycling, I'm down to 12.6 stones! Yay!

Talking about coincidence, I've got the crud 2 road racer mud guards too. They are fidgety to install, and I keep having to adjust the clearances because they keep tapping against the wheel rims.

Good luck with your timed ride event.

Swerve the Sports Direct bibs, they will almost certainly be awful. Wiggle's in house brand, DHB, have similarly priced bibs which are far superior (I've used both and learned so you don't have to).

You get used to the lack of undies very quickly. It's much more comfortable without them, and as long as you're not showing your baws to anyone, it really doesn't matter.
