Somewhat curtailed on Friday, leaving Dorset it was glorious sunshine, on arrival in London it was dreich and drizzle. But after having brunch in a little restaurant called Pita, +1 to my cluster anyway, then did some shopping in Golders Green before heading home.

Proper square grabbing ride today. Drove out to Oundle, lots of riding up a road and turning around, including three bridleways, one which had to have a bit of walking as it turned into a grass field. 80 miles later, 61 new squares and the max cluster increased by 91. Now need one square at Ashbourne to get the max square to 60.

Had a lovely cafe stop, Holly Lodge Cafe, at the end of that dead end bit bottom right

Proper dedication :okay:

Looking for some help from you guys. I'm a bit stuck on the tile circled in red below. Rode to it today to try and get it via a drive off the Edgecote Rd to the NW but 8 foot gates put paid to that. How have you local guys nabbed it?

I'm not local but the PROW map shows 2 bridleways (initially a foot path) going right through the square from the north of Thorpe Mandeville or you can go completely by Bridleway from Edgcote or Culworth or north of the railway (near Culworth Mill/ Edgcote Battlefield). If any of them are blocked contact West Northamptonshire County Council and get them reopened as the land owner can't legally block them.

The farm entrance to the west if Thorpe Mandeville is also signed as a bridleway on Streetview, but that is maybe a legacy as it doesn't appear on the electronic version of the WNCC definitive map.

On holiday in Scotland last week, visiting places where I had already previously cycled, but still managed to do two rides which added 21 new tiles in and around Dundee (mini-cluster up from a mere 2, now to two separate ones of 5) and five new tiles in the Inverness area (mini-cluster up from 19 to 31 cause this ride filled in quite a few gaps).

Bit of a change of plan for today, due to the car park at Castle Cary being shut for Glasto, and despite my efforts to reach Westbury and make the connecting train, alas. A bit late for a trip to Wales as a result.

Also, having left my Wahoo at home did not make tiling easy.

Instead, today I chipped away at the Bristol rail axis, making my cluster now reach Bath. It really looks rather absurd.

Can't believe 212 miles this weekend got no new tiles. Over the last few months Ive added 62 tiles but its none nothing to the max square and only increased the max cluster by 2

Grabbed two rather difficult tiles today that had been gaps in my map for an absolute age.

The first involved riding about 250 yards down this very bumpy track - usually the gate is closed but luckily today it was open. Had to proceed very slowly; it was a real boneshaker.

The other was officially a footpath, but wasn't obvious in which direction you were meant to go. Lifted my bike over a stile, locked it to a post, then jogged with my Garmin to the point where it beeped at me to turn around, then walked back. Photo taken on the walk back looking towards the road I'd been originally riding on (behind the hedge).

It’s good to see the famous Marsh Gibbon on a route @steverob! I haven’t been over that way in a while. I still have quite a lot of gaps in the area, and had been looking at that Dorton square and wondering what the best approach would be. (The satellite views show black and white things that might be cows, which always give me pause for thought. 🤠)

I have poured over that area in the past, should I ever pursue extending my cluster to Cambridge. It suspect it will probably end up being easier to reach up from London

As for my next plans, I've got routes planned for the New Forest:

And then a Heart of Wessex Day Ranger could connect my Bristol mini cluster, and then allow me to do some tidying up while I'm at it.

Damn, Pirbright ranges covers 2,700 acres and has NO public access. I reckon that stops my max square extending any further west.

Its MOD land. Do i join the army? Join the NRA (they lease some of the land)?

Or does my Surrey Wildlife Trust membership get me access via their rewilding work in the area? Options, options!

There's enough public access as far as I can see:

Lucas Green Road / Priest Lane gets into the tricky Pirbright tile.

Ash Ranges have some public access, but you don't actually need to enter the perimeter afaict.
