I discovered if you go into the leader boards Cyclechat club you can see people's home page if you are public on Strava as shown in orange on velo viewer so you can compare yours and mine

It's going to have to be west or the Peaks, so west it will be

Set a course on my workout yesterday to snaffle a tile to get to 10 x 10 square. Looks like it worked.

To get above 10 x 10 I'll have to go on tiles with no roads. Is the deal that you include all activities or only cycling?

It seems to be accepted that under your own power is acceptable, out of all my tiles I've only walked 3 of them

My view is they have to be under your own steam, so cycling, running, walking, kayaking all fine with me. I've done a few tiles that I've walked

19 more squares today and the max cluster up another 42.

Had to go every way a a crossroads to grab 5 squares.

Approached from the east getting the first square, turned right to go north and get the second and third, back down to the crossroads when I noticed the southern road was actually private with a gate across it, so do the west for the fourth square and back to the crossroads to decide what to do.

As I pull in, this van with a trailer pulls up and politely (he was polite) suggests I look behind me once in a while, I politely (which I was) suggested he toots his horn next time to let me know he is there. Anyway I decide to go down the private drive as I'm not sure how to get around it (per below it is easy, but on the Garmin it is a bugger to re route as the map screen is so small)

The private drive turns into a right bloody gravelly track, but I plod on, up a hill, passed a lovely house and then a farm and a gate across the exit. Lift bike over, climb over back, on the public highway. Look left and the fella in the van is about half a mile up the road. I jump back on the bike, down a hill, round a bend and a car is coming the other way. I jump out of the way and let him by, by which time the fella in the van has caught me up. He must have wondered where the hell I had come from to get so far ahead of him

Looking at the Tile Count / clusters etc. has shown me that I have a ride missing on Strava. I did LeJog in 2011 and one of the days is not there. This would make quite a difference to my cluster count! I've looked in Training Peaks and Garmin Connect as well as raise a ticket with Strava but it looks like it is just lost somehow. Maybe I'll have to go ride from Leigh to Sedbergh again one day

There is a way of recreating a gpx file with rough timings to upload to Strava for times when you have lost a ride. You just need to load up the planned route and then you can add the date and start and finish times and it adds time stamps
https://gotoes.org/strava/Add_Timestamps_To_GPX.php

Used to have to use this to.create go x files to use in the Magic Roads feature of RGT, now Wahoo RGT. Also used it to make Relive videos for races on the same platform.

Tempted to reactivate my veloviewer account to join in with this explorer shenanigans (though would mean exploring Birmingham by bike...)

Cheers. Well it would be nice. I have quite a lot of evidence to support the fact I did the ride - including a Blog, photos etc. Do people think this is ok??

Have edited my post. I have used it twice for my own rides. Once when I had a failure to record my first Imperial Century (Epic 100) and once when I lost a virtual ride when I was doing all of Simon Warren's hills virtually.

The only issue is that Strava remembers the times that are allocated for segments. Not sure what happens if you mark it as private in terms of Veloviewer. May not show up?

Cheers. I've found the original route gpx file. I'll put a really slow time in so it shouldn't affect any segment leaderboards.

That all worked very easily - thanks.

I can now see that ride on the Veloviwer map. However the max cluster hasn't changed. I can't see any obvious gap anywhere. Is it now just a case of scanning tile by tile?

Max cluster is the number of tiles surrounded by other tiles which turn blue on your map . I suspect as your ride was a point to point ride it wouldn't add to Max cluster but just add extra tiles to to your total tiles
