Well, having made moves on Salisbury from the south, I turned my attention to the west. One minor problem, a distinct lack of roads.

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads!

The Old Shaston Drove ridgeway... that's just awfully convenient for tiling, isn't it. Except I feel like I'd need a mountain bike. Oh wait, I have one that needs a real maiden voyage.

Once up the initial climb, it was pretty much plain sailing.

But since trains were... sparse today, I had a bit of time to kill, so after a well deserved drink (or two - coke and alcohol free cider), I nabbed two tiles to the north of Salisbury. And ended up passing the Skripal House.

I've ridden worse on my road bike

Mind you I did rip a rim one time and I still had 10 miles to get the station; brake loosened off and a slow ride saw me get to the end okay ^_^

Just flicking around and looked at this thread. I never knew the Tile Count was a "thing" Just looked on Veloviewer and I have 7,376 tiles: Max Square 9 x 9: Max Cluster 512

Is that good, bad, average or doesn't it matter?

You have more tiles than me. Max square and max cluster will always be low when you first start chasing tiles simply due to the fact that a lot of squares just don't fall onto "normal" routes. That's why I enjoy doing it as it makes you go out and ride to different places and ride different routes.

I really enjoyed the filling in of the early squares, doing different routes on the commute built the max square up really quickly. I went from max square of 12 and a max cluster of 427 to 27 and 1,408 respectively in the first year.

Once you get up to a max square of 40 it starts getting tougher, purely down to the time it takes to ride to the edge of it. Though a lot of people who have massive squares drive to the edge of their square, do a ride and then drive home. I prefer to ride one direction and get a train back

Thanks for that. I may start seeing if I can target these 👍

Today's imperial ton ride targeted my southern edge gained 15 new squares total now 5749 ,max cluster jumped up 32 as I grabbed a square I had previously surrounded total now 3079 . Need 3 more squares at my bottom right corner ( Kettering ) for my next max square increase

The Tour of Cambridgeshire did a slightly different route than in previous years and it meant that I crossed off four extra tiles today. Even better it filled in a small gap meaning I now have a mini cluster of 11 purple tiles just south of Peterborough. You never know, one day I may join it up to my main cluster - though I wouldn’t hold your breath on that.

There is a cracking cafe at Cranford St Andrew when you go get those Kettering squares. Ignore the you're advised to book on their website, I never have.

I think I have the hang of this. I can see I have one tile to get to increase from 9x9 to 10x10.

I'll try it soon and see if it works.

You need a league table

There is a league table on Veloviewer

Click on the red button in the middle of your summary page and you can select various tables.

Can you post your max square up so I can see the edges? I might try and plan a summer imperial ride that helps us both.
