I am struggling a bit to get my cassette off. It has worn down and needs replacing.

It is 7 speed and I am not sure how to get it off. I have a cassette tool, and a new cassette waiting. The cassette tool doesnt seem to fit in the cassette where it is meant to and, as far as I can work out, the cassette doesnt have a lockring.

Are you sure it's a cassette and not a freewheel?
You would need a freewheel remover if it is.

I don't thonk that's a cassette - looks like a seven speed block. It just unscrews, but it'll probably need a massive heave to get it off.

That's a freewheel, not a cassette. It screws on to the hub and needs a different, but similar tool. You don't use a chain whip with a freewheel They can often be very difficult to get off with a long spanner so you can mount the tool in a bench vise and rotate the wheel for leverage. If you've bought a new cassette then it won't fit on this wheel.

Freewheel - we did ask you in your other thread if it was - that's clearly a freewheel. ? Doh.

Oh, you might be better off going to a LBS as you are likely to need a very big spanner on the end of the freewheel tool - I ended up attaching a garden rake to the end of mine to get the leverage, especially if it's been on since new.

I am a numpty.

I can probably send the cassette back as I havent damaged it, but the cassette tool now has some chips on it (where I was trying to get it on).

Keep the cassette tool for when you get another bike. Build up your tool box.
The cassette... send back or there is a good for sale section on the forum.
