Back now! Due to missing the finish line mark (not the only one) I failed to halt the Garmin, but looking at the data I might just have scraped sub 25 min. For a first time on a non-TT (but nice) bike, I am well-chuffed. I think I've got a better time in me, but 4 minutes improvement might be pushing it.:surrender:

Sounds like your turbo training has paid off.:okay:

If you got in the 24's id say that was impressive! Well done.
Is it a quick course though, what's the top times?
By local standards I'd say it was quick. The first mile or so is lumpy but after that pan-flat, although the road surface is sketchy in places. There was a reasonable turnout, so I'd expect the 'pros' to be close to sub 20. There was a slight headwind on the way back, which figured in some of the post-ride conversations.

You *ahem* may have picked up that I'm a massive numbers geek (not Stava though - can't be @rsed), so I have a reasonably good idea of what power I can maintain and I'm lucky that my heart rate also tends to be stable with respect to effort. My bike has a Stages so it was just a case of dialling in the power that I knew I could hold for ~30mins and digging in. If anything I paced it a little conservatively.

Ok still sounds a cracking time for your first event! Did you not hang around for your official time?

Without TT bars too?

Very good (with or without TT bars to be fair)

There won't be many people above you on standard bikes I guess?

No official time on the day I'm afraid as I needed to get away reasonably quickly. They'll be published on the club website in a day or two anyway. I'm not by nature a competitive person so it's more about the personal satisfaction of getting off my bum and trying something new.

Thanks 400, I'm sure there'll be better times on crapper bikes. Mine is a Canyon Aeroad with deep-section wheels, so it's halfway to a TT bike anyway.

This may be of interest to you (or not) but a bod I follow on Strava who I have ridden with a couple of times punches out 21-22 min 10 mins TT's regularly (on not particularly fast courses) averaging 300w. My guess is full TT gear and is reasonably light.

This surprised me. In fact he's the fastest in the club he's in.

Update

Second TT tonight just got back in and i got a 31.22 slightly quicker than last weeks even though the weather was not so good. Also had TT bars on the bike but hardly used them due to nerves and how quickly the bike moves due to rider weight

Good work. Did you change anything based on what you learned on the first ride?

TT bars are a waste of time below about 20mph, you're best to concentrate on fitness first. The faster you go the more effective aero kit becomes, too slow and you are just adding weight.

And as if by magic the official times from my TT have been published.

24.23 :wahhey:

11th out of 36 riders and highest unattached rider. That is far better than I would have predicted both before and after the ride. Because I was anticipating a climb at the finish (in fact the finish was just before the start of the hill) I'd held something back, so I think I could have gone sub 24 if I'd known the course better.

The fastest time was 20:52 by the club prodigy.
