We are Piaggio/ Vespa motorcycle dealers.

About 5 years ago there was an instruction from Piaggio to de-crate and check EVERY bike before signing off the delivery notes.

Imagine decrating and inspecting 10 motorcycles while the driver has to wait!, he wasn't happy and neither were we..

Luckily after 6 months they saw sense.

So you're suggesting that delivery drivers being under constant time pressure will not, in any way, contribute towards impatience towards other road users?
The reply was to passing too close not impatience. People are impatient in their persona not because of other road users and time constraints these may well just exaggerate the problems these drivers have, many of the bad drivers will be bad drivers no matter the conditions.

I was a Goods in Transit Claims Handler for a well-known/useless freight company, who would deliver bikes for Pinarello, Boardman, Specialized etc...pricey stuff.

I can advise now, never sign for an item, box damage, goods unchecked, as most freight companies consider this part of the customers duty to check for the condition. If a box is damaged, you would want to know if the goods are, then refuse them on the spot. If in doubt, always signed "Damaged".
Yep, that sounds like a useless freight company, being completely unrealistic like that. They would do their nut if every recipient refused to sign until a full check was completed or refused goods for the slightest damage to the box.

No matter what most freight companies consider, "requiring that the goods are accepted as satisfactory on delivery" is literally a textbook example of an unfair contract term (on page 19 there) - consumers can't legally be held to that and it's not fair to impose such a term on businesses either.

I work for a university. Our department specifically gets lots of deliveries. We are lucky that we are able to receive personal deliveries. Also, anything that they need to sign for, we then need to sign for. Covers themselves really.
