I once had a parcel delivered to work (not allowed anymore) in my horse riding days.
Opened by security on arrival (bloody cheek, literally :giggle:)
Contents were a pair of Pikeur breeches, some gloves and a pair of "dressage" pants
Cringe

At least the couriers delivered the bike. At work I am currently helping a nice lady where the courier company simply won't deliver some vitally needed kit to her house because they can't be arsed to find it. She had to send someone to the depot to collect in person.

I would ring the courier firm and ask them what they are playing at.

I get things sent to work as I am not at home in the day to have them delivered there. I always make sure the store guys at work know that something is coming for me and my name is always on the packages.

GF's son works for a firm who use the same lease/hire as local Amazon. They said that some of the vans used end up in a right state. One went back in with no back doors. If you watch them deliver they run from van and back, then shoot off to next delivery.

I wouldn't want to be a delivery driver, we are friendly/ chatty with all out regular drivers and they take some real sh1t off some people (normally stuck up receptionist just being awkward for the sake of it).

One driver drops over the road from us at 10am, he delivers our parcels too at same time which is better for everyone but he hads to remove the lables and scan them later in the day (instead of driving all the way back to drop later). Madness..

They put in some pretty long hours as well.

I sometimes think that the occasional bad driving, close passes and suchlike from delivery vans can be put down to this kind of pressure.

I'm not excusing it if course, but it does explain it
No it doesn't, I haven't done parcel delivery but did for Comet not as many drops but more installations so time was always under pressure, I have worked in transport all my life from taxi's to HGV bad driving is bad driving, had a local HGV overtake the other day just a tad to close on a hill, the thing is he was no more than 1/2 mile from his depot and as it happened the same route I was taking he gained nothing as I was with him all the way, yet most of them either wait or give plenty of room.

@keithmac modern technology for you, as above when with Comet, we would often ring an afternoon delivery if it was on our route out, but could only do it if it did not impact morning deliveries.

So you're suggesting that delivery drivers being under constant time pressure will not, in any way, contribute towards impatience towards other road users?

I was a Goods in Transit Claims Handler for a well-known/useless freight company, who would deliver bikes for Pinarello, Boardman, Specialized etc...pricey stuff.

I can advise now, never sign for an item, box damage, goods unchecked, as most freight companies consider this part of the customers duty to check for the condition. If a box is damaged, you would want to know if the goods are, then refuse them on the spot. If in doubt, always signed "Damaged".
