Sorry Bill, didn't mean to belittle the part of the ride you did! I just meant it was the only part of the ride I was not in some kind of pain really! It is a bit daunting really when you get to that first feed stop and realise you "just" have another 100 miles - and all the big hills - to go . Your previous efforts in the Double Devil are legendary so you have nothing to prove to yourself so I'm sure it was the right decision to stop when you did and enjoy the weekend rather than have a day full of pain!

Biggest issue I had was neck and shoulder pain (plus my legs did stop working on anything uphill for the last few miles!). I'm usually very comfortable on that bike, but I just haven't put enough miles in to condition myself for that length of time on the bike - particularly as I do zwift rides on a different bike. No coincidence that the discomfort really kicked in after 40ish miles which is around the longest outdoor ride I've done since the DD last year - and there's only been a handful of them. I must try and get a few longer rides in between now and the TOC.

Either that or I'm just getting old

I didn't in the least bit think you were belittling the first part of the ride and fully understand that it was a slow pace by previous standards. I'm actually quite pleased that I didn't do the ride and was able to accept that I wasn't up to the job this year. Hopefully this is a sign that I'm accepting my limits these days, and now need to start the process of proper and sensible training so that I can one day do the 130 again (or was it a 125 when I did it?).
I'm thinking of getting started by buying a new frame in size small. Ideally a Canyon and just swap the parts over.

It was 120 miles on the old course, but - according to my Strava anyway - a bit more climbing, so I think we can call it a draw!

I would just like to add it was truly my pleasure at meeting Add, Martyn, Rob, Peterob and Bill S as well as seeing Berty and Tommy and Bob and Bridgy again.
It is a weird thing when the people you know online turn out to be even more pleasant in real life. I guess this could be part of a very well organised scam to lull me into complacency, but because I don't have anything worth going to all that trouble, I'll have to have to go with another theory that the genes that make you a nice guy must also predispose you to Cycling.
Again it doesn't seem natural for so many to be so nice. Maybe it's like the saying if you don't know who the sucker at the poker table is, it's you.

Edit: I mean if no one else is a selfish jerk it might be me.I am an American after all and have reputation to keep up.

It was great to finally meet you too Tommy. Like I said to Bob, it'd be good if we can meet up for some laps of Richmond park.
I had a great weekend in Wales even though I couldn't do the 130 with you chaps (or even the 95 on my own). My ride back with Randy and meeting all of you made the trip very much worth while and I'll hope to be back in future years with enough fitness to ride with the group.

Sounds like a plan mate

^_^ Really nice to see you again Randy and to see the puzzled look on your face every time I speak ! Don’t worry - it’s not just you - Adam does as well - but he is welsh ! sorry I had to disappear early this morning - I wanted to miss the traffic - as it was , I went wrong at Birmingham and added 8 mile of the m6 going the wrong way
I will keep tabs on you and try my best to get up north

There's some good ones - including some of us - and a video of the start on the County Cycles facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/countycyclesshop/

Scroll down to the three posts on the 12th May for the photos and video
Did I actually go ?

Here you go @berty bassett - proof that you were there! Not sure standing between @Add and @TurboTommy was a good idea for a man of your stature

Is Lee in a hole? He's even making Bob look tall  Lee, Bob and I are all 173 cms tall .... I think I may need to measure myself again

Edit: Just measured myself .... 171 cms ..... feck, I'm even shorter than I realised  Seems I'm a smidge over 5'7" and not 5'8" as I've been telling people for years :giggle:

Last week things took yet a turn and now leans towards the ToC time trial. I was suddenly able to hold 300 watt for 45 min, which is enough for the full length of the ToC Chrono (Numbers from last year was 272 watt for 40 min).
I'm doing a test this weekend to rule out the possibility of my power pedals were too generous. Nothing less than a KOM on my test route will do (https://www.strava.com/segments/18408197).

If I decide to go with the sportive, I found a guy close to our hotel, who's renting out his Specialized road bike
