Cheers @CXRAndy - I got a mail back off them too today confirming the same. takes a bit of pressure off. Still look to leave at 6am, but at least now I have some slack in case I hit traffic somewhere :okay:

Thanks others too for offering to register for me ... really kind, but thankfully no need to take you up on this.

I think I'll be good. Minimum average speed for the 100 miler is 12mph. My brothers are worried
I think if you start early from the pen, and keep the stops short (just enough to fill up water and have a snack), 12 mph should be fine. The pace car won't start until the last riders have left the pens. Worst case anyway is they ask you to take a shortcut back, or follow the ToC65 mile course so still a great day out :okay:

@Add and @BILL S were the pioneers of the Double Devil (Adam mostly to blame for suggesting it!) so it was great to see them both there again this year - sorry you didn't feel up to doing the whole thing this year Bill - although that initial 30 miles to the first food stop was a very pleasant ride!

Great to see you all again and to meet @peterob - and see @Randyberlin again!

I do love that event even though it is bloomin hard. Also, I have done it three times now and the weather has been glorious every time which is pretty impressive for Wales!

Tough day at the office but no regrets. Well maybe one. I wish I’d of spent a little more time with Bill and Randy. And maybe I could of got slightly more sleep the night before the ride...

Spending time in the real world with cc’ers always reminds me how lucky I am to have found such a great group of people. Sometimes words on a forum can easily be misconstrued and wrong impressions made. But on these meet ups i always find myself in great company with like minded people who do there very best to help each other along. So thanks very much to everyone as you all kept me going when the dark clouds started to hover in my mind.

I don’t think any of us really had any right to think we were in condition to do the 130 apart from Berty. But some how we managed to bluff it ^_^.

Bill and Randy very wisely decided against it. Randy has got bigger fish to fry, and wil get stronger as his tour starts to open up. Bill has done it numerous times already and will be back stronger when he has the chance to spend more time on the bike.

Like Bridgy says I can’t belive how lucky we keep getting with the weather either!

Great work guys - 130 miles is not to be taken lightly.

Second this completely. As a 'fat bloke at the back' I have appreciated every bit of help from you guys when I've been out on rides with you. The first DD, having had that big asthma attack, it was Rob, Martin, you and Dean (and Adam's support in the car) that got me through. We'd only just met that ride yet the teamwork was great. And again, in the IoW, even though I was out of my depth with you guys (and probably annoyingly slow!), the group never abandoned me. For a new rider, or someone wanting to get into the group, that is a real positive :okay: Even @bobinski kept his fall off the bike until the group was together, so I could experience it too

Looking forward to catching up again in Peterborough. I won't be riding with you there, but have a chat before the ride will be good. Hopefully I can ride a bith with TB and his Bro's :okay:

A great group, and so glad I found you all :wahhey:

For the ToC, does anyone know the registration cut off on the day? The website suggests 6 - 8:30 registration on the Sunday for the race and Fondo, but doesn't give a time slot for the 100 Sportive. I'm having to drive there in the morning and it will be at least 3 hours (so up at 4:30, get HID washed and dressed and downstairs before I leave) so even leaving at 5:30 the earliest I can get there is 8:30, and that's just to the car park. The ride itself doesn't start until 10:15 so I was hoping registration would be open until at least 9:45 ..... having a bit of a panic! Pinged them an email, but wondered if anyone had seen any info on this, or remembered from last year.
Carl, I know you've already had an answer on this but just to further reassure you, I registered on the Sunday morning before the ride last year no problem and I will probably do so again this year. The earlier you can get there the to sign on the better (I appreciate your limitations though) because it's nice and quiet early on and only takes a moment, but there were big queues and it was a bit more chaotic as the morning went on. Also the price of parking goes up a lot as you get later in the morning - it's free from 6am to 7am, £10 until 8am, and £20 after 8am.

Lovely to meet Bill today and to see Paul again. Who would have thought bkool would have brought a group of men together for acts of cycling bravado in glorious locations?
Great day today. Hard but fun. Well done all:thumbsup:
Great to meet you too Bob. Hopefully we can get together again for some quick (for me but cruising for you) laps around Richmond Park. I need to get my enthusiasm and fitness back where it was before I contemplate any more crazy rides in Wales.

Haha, "a very pleasant ride"? I suffered during that very pleasant ride and got to the food stop way behind everyone else. I know it was a much slower ride than last year to the same point but I found it a lot harder. The worst part was that my 4rse was killing me after just 20 miles.

It was great to finally meet you too Tommy. Like I said to Bob, it'd be good if we can meet up for some laps of Richmond park.
I had a great weekend in Wales even though I couldn't do the 130 with you chaps (or even the 95 on my own). My ride back with Randy and meeting all of you made the trip very much worth while and I'll hope to be back in future years with enough fitness to ride with the group.

Sorry Bill, didn't mean to belittle the part of the ride you did! I just meant it was the only part of the ride I was not in some kind of pain really! It is a bit daunting really when you get to that first feed stop and realise you "just" have another 100 miles - and all the big hills - to go . Your previous efforts in the Double Devil are legendary so you have nothing to prove to yourself so I'm sure it was the right decision to stop when you did and enjoy the weekend rather than have a day full of pain!

Biggest issue I had was neck and shoulder pain (plus my legs did stop working on anything uphill for the last few miles!). I'm usually very comfortable on that bike, but I just haven't put enough miles in to condition myself for that length of time on the bike - particularly as I do zwift rides on a different bike. No coincidence that the discomfort really kicked in after 40ish miles which is around the longest outdoor ride I've done since the DD last year - and there's only been a handful of them. I must try and get a few longer rides in between now and the TOC.

Either that or I'm just getting old
