only thing that puts me off is its a lottery - i would be narked if everyone got in and not me but then again i would be narked again if i done it on my lonesome
i didn't realise you had to attend a meeting before hand which would also be a pain and i guess getting there on the day if i did get in wouldnt be much fun either so all in all for me i think the negatives win this time
on a cheerier note - i have just done a high speed Bob ! and scattered myself over a wide area of tarmac after hitting a pot hole at 25 mph !
knee took the brunt of it followed closely by back of already wonky shoulder , elbow and at sometime during the commando roll i took a handlebar in the ribs !
been bending rear hanger straight again but brake lever , tape and derailleur took a beating but think they will have to add character to the bike at the moment ! Sorrento is a good place to kiss goodbye to any excess funds you might have !
Oh no - hard luck!! Recover quickly mate....

Yes, because sensible, sane people will be tucked up comfortably in bed!!
We will in our nice hotel rooms
Just occurred to me that I did the DD two years ago on my old bike with a 34/32 smallest gear which was very welcome in those Welsh hills. Going to be 36/28 this time....
Excellent, someone with harder gears than me, my smallest is 36/29

Heal fast bud

It is a bit of a pain with the registration process. I think most people who come from outside of the south east stay down for the weekend. Register Saturday, ride Sunday. A bit like we did on Cambridge.

For what it’s worth I have space at my place if people from far away places win a golden ticket.

Thanks a lot for that Tommy, and thanks for going into so much detail - that actually makes complete sense what you've said and is really helpful. Probably summarised by saying London is less mellow, and more full of w@nkers, but also a bit more special and more exciting for it - which basically sums up London in general, right?!

Edit: You'd laugh at my 12 year old who's just returned from a week-long school trip to London. Basically a group of wide-eyed country bumpkin 12 year olds seeing all the major sights of London plus shows etc in the evenings. The highlights for my son though were: a) seeing police and soldiers with REAL GUNS; b) Crazy deranged people on the underground; c) witnessing a police chase of joyriders. They've lived a sheltered life...

Ha! no worries mate. It did turn into a proper nostalgia trip... The missus was watching some cr@p on tv so I had time to kill. Your summary was slightly more concise than mine . I realised I risked not keep bob’s attention as I didn’t mention Zwift every other sentence but that’s the price you pay sometimes I guess...

Kids are so funny. It’s sounds like he got the full spectrum of big city life and managed to escape unscathed!

i've done Ride 100 once, I had a later start time than others in the club so rode it 'solo'. I really enjoyed the route and the ride, had a chat with a few riders, stayed out of trouble, Now I like to think I'm an ok rider and having done some track cycling I'm very aware of riders around me, but Ride 100 is something else, so many riders that don't hold their line, cut corners, don't look etc.. Then you have the wannabe racers, constant shouts of 'on the right'. The hills are great fun, people stopping to get off and walk right near the bottom, this then creates holds up etc..

But all in all I did enjoy it, I wouldn't want to do it again. I was unlucky with my start time, so many riders in front, so as Tommy said, say you're fast and get an early start time, that was you should miss most of what I had. In contrast, my first 'closed road' sportive was Velothon Wales, which had fewer riders, but was similar to Ride 100, flat for the half then a couple of reasonable hills before a long sweeping descent back to Cardiff. This still had the wannabe racers shouting 'on the right' but there was more space on the road, it still had bottle necks on the hills, why do people stop at the bottom of hills to walk up. there were people walking up the Tumble, getting off at the bottom, it's 2.8 miles long, that's a long walk.

I saw nasty crashes on both rides, although the ones on Velothon wales were worse, some guy crashed on a descent at about 40mph, straight over a fence, he was not in a good way.

Re Ride 100 some of us are going to take advantage of the roads being closed after midnight and ride most of it in the early hours of the morning. If the weather is good then riding at pace in a group up and over Leith Hill then up Box just before dawn should be nice. Perhaps even euphoric...
I think Tommy is joining us but If anyone else wants to join I can put a few up.

I think if I got a late start time in Ride London I’d be tempted to turn it down now I’ve done it once. It looks like carnage!

In other news you Proffessional Manual types will be pleased to know i managed to install my new Ultegra Shifter hoods:okay:
Wasn’t sure I would have sufficient strength in the arms but it seems the resistance training I have been doing helped. Mind you they were a bugger to get on!
