Just did the Chrono Cup #2 as preparation for ToC.
I was hoping to get a good FTP update from this event but it was just way to technical. Had a plan to stay just under 300 watt for the first 5 min, then stay at 300 watt until the last 5 min, where I would try to push as hard I could. But as it turned out, I had my work cut out just to steer clear of trouble, and rarely had a chance to watch the numbers on the Garmin.
I didn't quite average the watts I would have liked, but the watts I did push out I really made them count. Very pleased with the efficiency :smile:.

On Strava it looks like a ton of PRs.

Some advice please boys and girls. I am thinking of getting an Aero helmet. The usual suspects are eye watering expensive so I am pondering this;

Anyone have one?
This is an alternative;

Specialized Evade

Met Manta

Giro Synthe

I have the Synthe and it's an ok allrounder. The Evade looks more aero though.

No knowledge/opinion on those specific helmets, but I do have a helmet with the removable "aero" shell cover. The issue with this is that with the shell fitted, condensation soon builds up inside the helmet (particularly if putting in a hard effort!), which then starts to drip onto my glasses - can get quite annoying. So, whilst I might put the shell on for extra aero advantage (whether it actually makes any significant difference, who knows?) for a short, sharp effort, I would avoid using it for a longer ride due to the condensation build up. On the other hand, the venting on a very hot day is probably better/more cooling than a dedicated aero helmet without the separate clip on shell like your first option.

As we don't actually get that many really hot days, I'd personally probably go for something aero but with permanent venting like your first option instead of one with a clip on shell when I come to replace my helmet though, for the reasons above.

I have the evade, the synthe and a giro air attack

All three rank quite highly with regards aero. Whether that makes any difference to me is very debatable seeing as I’m about as aero as a barn door!

I’m looking to sell the synthe if anyone fancies on. It’s a great helmet just not a good fit for me. I’ve only worn it once but it’s a large so too big for you I think Bob. Out of the three I like the fit of the air attack best. They don’t make it anymore and it’s been superseded but you can still get very good deals on the version with the clip on visor. The synthe is the lightest, the evade looks the coolest. The evade has also been superseded by the evade II so you can get deal on it.

Stating the obvious but one will fit you better than the others so buy a couple and send one back. Giro seem rounder, spesh seem narrower. I definitely wouldn’t go ‘full aero’ as I think it’s a bit OTT on a standard road bike

I am trying to break the habit but it’s not an overnight process :blush:

Bike shops never seem to stock many helmets. Maybe get them to order a few in. Saying that personally I’d just order a load online and send all but one back.
